∎ Médecins du Monde Suisse (MdM Switzerland) is an independent humanitarian health organisation founded in Neuchâtel in 1993. It is a member of the international Médecins du Monde network, composed of 16 chapters.
∎ MdM Switzerland aims to sustainably improve access to health for vulnerable populations - particularly women and children - both in Switzerland and around the world.
∎ Around the world, healthcare systems too often fail women and children who suffer from unequal access to services. MdM Switzerland is by their side, providing medical and social support to victims of violence while defending their rights, ensuring pain-free medical treatment to children, and helping women and girls make informed choices regarding their own bodies and sexuality, plan their pregnancy and give birth safely.
∎ To achieve its goals, MdM Switzerland develops programmes in three thematic areas: SRHR, violence prevention and response, and paediatric palliative care. From local to global, it adopts integrated approaches to bring lasting and complete solutions to unequal access to healthcare. Combining its thematic expertise with informed stakeholder coordination and close collaboration with local partners, MdM Switzerland is committed to ensure context-appropriate response concepts and the sustainability of effected work.
∎ MdM Switzerland has been working in support to the displaced Rohingya population and affected host community in Cox`s Bazar since 2018. The core focus of its response lies on quality primary health care, sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and quality care for gender-based violence (GBV) survivors in the Rohingya camps and surrounding local communities.
∎ The `hidden pandemic` evolving along the devastating impact of the COVID-19 crisis has again demonstrated the importance of GBV mainstreaming in health and other sectors which has been the course of recent work of MdM Switzerland in Cox`s Bazar. In strong partnership with our local partner, MdM Switzerland is committed to strengthening health structures and extensive capacity building on quality service for GBV survivors as well as to address communities` awareness and response capacity to GBV at community level.
∎ To ensure appropriate implementation and development of the programme, sound coordination at field level with a magnitude of actors in the Rohingya response and oversight of the overall mission, closely collaborating with other MdM chapters, MdM Switzerland is searching for a General Coordinator to start from December 2020 onwards.
