1. Clinical Duties (Animal Health Care)

• Diagnosis and Treatment

  • Examine animals to diagnose diseases, injuries, or health conditions.

  • Prescribe appropriate medicines, vaccines, or other treatments.

  • Perform surgeries such as wound repair, fracture fixation, or cesarean sections.

• Preventive Care

  • Vaccination programs for poultry, cattle, and pets.

  • Deworming and parasite control.

  • Nutritional counseling and growth management.

• Emergency Care

  • Provide urgent care for critically ill or injured animals.

  • Handle obstetric emergencies like dystocia (difficult births).

2. Animal Production and Farm Management

• Herd Health Management

  • Develop herd/flock health plans to improve productivity.

  • Advise on breeding, feeding, and housing systems.

  • Control infectious diseases like FMD, Newcastle, or mastitis.

• Biosecurity and Disease Control

  • Implement farm biosecurity measures.

  • Monitor for outbreak diseases and take preventive action.

3. Public Health and Food Safety

• Zoonotic Disease Control

  • Prevent and control diseases that spread from animals to humans (e.g., rabies, anthrax, avian influenza).

• Meat and Milk Inspection

  • Inspect slaughterhouses to ensure meat safety.

  • Monitor milk hygiene and processing plants.

  • Ensure animal products meet national food safety standards.

• Antibiotic Stewardship

  • Prevent misuse of antibiotics to reduce antimicrobial resistance.

4. Regulatory and Administrative Duties

• Government and Policy Work

  • Implement livestock health policies and government vaccination programs.

  • Quarantine and movement control of livestock.

  • Participate in animal census and disease reporting.

• Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of treatments, vaccinations, and outbreaks.

  • Report notifiable diseases to the relevant authorities.

5. Research and Education

• Conduct research to improve veterinary medicine, vaccines, and livestock management.

• Teach veterinary students, farmers, and animal owners about animal health practices.

• Publish scientific findings and participate in veterinary seminars/workshops.

6. Pharmaceutical and Industry Roles

• Animal Medicine Development

  • Work with veterinary pharmaceutical companies to develop new drugs, vaccines, and supplements.

• Field Support and Training

  • Provide technical support to farmers and feed dealers.

  • Train veterinary sales teams on product usage and proper animal health practices.

7. Ethical and Legal Responsibilities

• Follow veterinary ethics while treating animals.

• Prevent animal cruelty and ensure welfare standards are maintained.

• Comply with legal guidelines for drug prescriptions and animal care.
