JOB SUMMARY:
The Accountant will be responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, ensuring compliance with Bangladesh government regulations, donor requirements, and internal policies. This mid-level role demands strong technical expertise in accounting entries, budgeting, ERP systems (especially Microsoft Dynamics), VAT and Tax compliance, audit readiness, financial archiving, and payment processing. The position also involves supporting junior staff and contributing to financial planning and strategic decision-making.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Objective 1: Ensure Accurate and Timely Financial Reporting
Record daily accounting entries including journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and reconciliations.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and donor reports.
Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all financial activities.
Identify and correct errors in financial reports, even after submission, through proper revision protocols.
Objective 2: Lead Budgeting and Financial Planning Processes
Coordinate with the Office Director and program teams to prepare annual and project-specific budgets.
Follow structured steps in budget preparation including forecasting, cost analysis, and donor alignment.
Monitor budget implementation and provide variance analysis with recommendations.
Objective 3: Ensure Compliance with VAT and Tax Regulations
Deduct and deposit Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) and VAT Deducted at Source (VDS) as per Bangladesh government rules.
Prepare and submit monthly withholding tax and VAT returns to the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Maintain accurate records and documentation for all tax and VAT-related transactions.
Address challenges in VAT and Tax reporting, including documentation gaps and regulatory changes.
Ensure proper VAT registration and maintain the Business Identification Number (BIN).
Objective 4: Optimize Financial Operations Using ERP Dynamics
Operate and manage financial data using Microsoft Dynamics ERP system.
Ensure accurate data entry, reconciliation, and reporting within the ERP environment.
Generate financial reports, budget summaries, and audit trails using ERP tools.
Collaborate with IT and finance teams to troubleshoot ERP issues and enhance system efficiency.
Objective 5: Manage Bills, Vouchers, and Payments
Review and process payment requests, ensuring completeness and compliance with financial policies.
Prepare and verify payment vouchers, ensuring proper coding and authorization.
Monitor outstanding bills and ensure timely settlement of vendor and service provider payments.
Maintain accurate records of all disbursements and ensure proper documentation for audit purposes.
Coordinate with procurement and program teams to validate financial documents against contracts and delivery.
Objective 6: Support Financial Archiving and Audit Readiness
Maintain a structured and secure financial archiving system for all accounting records.
Ensure timely and organized filing of vouchers, invoices, contracts, and supporting documents.
Prepare and compile audit schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
Respond to auditor queries and assist in resolving audit findings.
Ensure compliance with donor and internal audit requirements.
Objective 7: Demonstrate Professional Judgment and Team Collaboration
Manage work pressure and tight deadlines through effective prioritization and time management.
Handle conflicting instructions between management and approved financial policies with integrity and professionalism.
Participate in procurement and asset inventory committees.
Contribute to the performance evaluation of junior finance staff.
Provide technical support and mentorship to assistant accountants and interns.
