  • Language: Strong writing and speaking skills in English.

Responsibilities & Context:

Society for Health Extension and Development (SHED) is a national non-governmental organization that has been working in Bangladesh since 1989. SHED is currently implementing various projects in Health, Nutrition, WASH, Food Security, Protection, and DRR with support from UN agencies and international partners.

In partnership with Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation, SHED is seeking a qualified and dynamic professional for its project: "Inclusive Cities for Nutrition (IC4N) – 18-Month Cost Extension."

Location: Cox’s Bazar Pourashava (Municipality)

Contract Duration: 18 Months (Initial contract for 1 year, extendable)

Job Purpose: To provide technical and strategic leadership in ensuring all nutrition interventions align with project targets, specifically focusing on fostering a nutrition-sensitive food system and climate-smart production within the Cox’s Bazar Municipality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and monitor innovative urban horticulture models, including vertical/sack gardening and climate-smart production techniques.

  • Provide hands-on technical support for homestead and rooftop gardens, ensuring sustainable, organic, and nutritious food production.

  • Deliver expert guidance on crop selection, irrigation, pest/disease management, and agroecological approaches tailored for urban settings.

  • Directly guide 2,400 producers in adopting nutrition-sensitive production methods and climate-smart agriculture.

  • Develop comprehensive training materials and conduct capacity-building sessions for Local Service Providers (LSPs), extension workers, and community members.

  • Lead the technical training of Community Mobilizers and "Lead Mothers" on advanced nutrition and production techniques.

  • Facilitate workshops on climate-resilient farming and sustainable urban food systems.

  • Serve as the "Officer In-Charge" for the Team Leader (TL) position, overseeing project management duties during the TL’s absence.

  • Directly monitor and supervise the work of Community Mobilizers to ensure all field activities meet project quality standards.

  • Establish and strengthen sustainable market linkages between urban producers, traders, and retailers to boost income generation and local food availability.

  • Coordinate effectively with Cox’s Bazar Municipality (CBM) and relevant Government departments to ensure seamless project integration.

  • Sensitize community leaders and local authorities on nutrition-sensitive food system policies and the benefits of agroecology.

  • Regularly collect field data using KOBO Toolbox (or relevant tools) to ensure precise documentation of horticultural progress.

  • Prepare monthly progress reports, yield tracking, and impact assessments.

  • Support the project leadership in preparing high-quality donor reports by providing technical insights and achievement data.
