Responsibilities & Context:
∎ To collect local information regarding the infrastructure and analyze the local requirements of infrastructure like shelter and WASH facilities considering the local environmental and socio-economic requirements.
∎ Introduce innovative idea by understanding the climate risk including the cyclone, flood and heat stress on the infrastructure and designing, adoption of design of infrastructure including housing and cyclone shelters, rainwater harvesters, tube wells, etc.
∎ Literature review on the structural design including the resilient housing and keep the research and implementation team aware of the updated information.
∎ Provide support to activity planning towards disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation as per project proposal.
∎ Coordinate and ensure the implementation of similar interventions by partner agencies.
∎ Ensure active participation in local-level planning and execution and coordination with government and non-government stakeholders.
∎ Responsible to all Documentation, Article writing and communication development.
∎ Prepare monthly, periodic, need-based reports.

∎ UDDOM project aims to empower climate-vulnerable communities in Bagerhat, Sunamganj, and Jamalpur districts of Bangladesh to cope with and mitigate the impacts of climate change-induced disasters. By focusing on strengthening local government institutions and providing access to financial resources, crop insurance, and climate-smart agricultural practices, the project seeks to enhance the resilience of both communities and local governance structures. Through initiatives such as “Adaptation Clinics” for climate-smart agriculture, the provision of financial services, and the construction of climate-resilient infrastructure including water facilities and housing, UDDOM integrates proven adaptive solutions with locally developed strategies. Additionally, the project endeavors to improve early warning systems and facilitate early action to better prepare communities for future climate-induced disasters. Over a span of 60 months, UDDOM aims to foster sustainable development and resilience in the face of increasingly frequent and severe climate-related challenges.
∎ JOB PURPOSE: BRAC is seeking qualified Specialist, Shelter, for the USAID funded “Community-led Climate Smart Innovations to Address Climate Change Impacts (UDDOM)” project awarded on March 2024 and expected to run for 5 years.
∎ The shelter specialist will be the technical lead for the shelter and WASH interventions. He/ She will work with the project officers to ensure implementation of the shelter and WASH interventions, including the climate resilient houses, cluster villages, community infrastructure projects, household and community-based rainwater harvesting modelling, repair and rehabilitation of tubewells, in compliance with GoB and USAID BHA requirements. The specialist will also oversee the preparation of the designs and Bill of Quantities (BoQ) for USAID approval. He/ She will be required to monitor the construction phase and direct the construction entity to ensure the quality and to meet the timeline of the construction.

∎ SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES
∎ Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
∎ Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
∎ Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
