WORK AREA: Cox’s Bazar – Teknaf , Bangladesh

Reporting To: Hierarchical: Project Officer - Relief Coordination (Anas Abulaban)

Functional: Cox’s bazar project officer (Hamidul Islam)

JOB SUMMARY: The Project Officer (Psychologist) is responsible for providing mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services to individuals and communities affected by displacement and humanitarian crises. The role includes conducting psychological assessments, delivering counseling services, managing mental health conditions, and supporting community-based psychosocial interventions. The Psychologist contributes to improving emotional well-being, resilience, and protection of vulnerable populations, while ensuring services are delivered in a culturally sensitive and ethical manner.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Objective 1: Provide psychological assessment and counseling services.

• Conduct psychological assessments and identify mental health conditions.

• Provide individual and group counseling sessions to patients.

• Develop tailored care plans based on individual needs.

• Support management of common mental health conditions (stress, anxiety, depression, trauma).

Objective 2: Deliver community-based psychosocial support (MHPSS).

• Facilitate group support sessions and psychosocial activities.

• Provide psychological first aid (PFA) when required.

• Support community outreach activities related to mental health awareness.

• Promote positive coping mechanisms and resilience within the community.

Objective 3: Identify and refer complex cases.

• Identify severe or high-risk cases requiring specialized care.

• Refer patients to appropriate mental health or protection services.

• Coordinate with healthcare providers for integrated case management.

• Follow up on referred cases to ensure continuity of care.

Objective 4: Integrate MHPSS into primary healthcare services.

• Coordinate with medical teams to ensure holistic patient care.

• Support capacity building of health staff on basic psychosocial support.

• Provide guidance on psychological aspects of patient management.

• Promote integration of mental health into routine healthcare services.

Objective 5: Support documentation and reporting.

• Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.

• Document counseling sessions and case management details.

• Prepare regular reports on MHPSS activities and outcomes.

• Support data collection for monitoring and evaluation.

Objective 6: Promote mental health awareness and stigma reduction.

• Conduct awareness sessions on mental health and well-being.

• Address stigma and misconceptions around mental health.

• Provide psychoeducation to individuals, families, and groups.

• Encourage help-seeking behavior within the community.

Objective 7: To ensure employees adhere to ethical standards, organizational policies, and legal requirements while always maintaining integrity and professional conduct.

Objective 8: Ensure the implementation of Qatar Charity’s safeguarding standards, including PSEA and GBV prevention, across all project activities to maintain a safe and accountable environment.

• Implement and monitor safeguarding measures, ensuring compliance with Qatar Charity’s PSEA and GBV policies throughout the project lifecycle.

• Abide by QC’s Child Protection and Safeguarding related policies to keep children and young people safe and to respond to concerns about a child's safety or wellbeing.

• Establish and maintain confidential, accessible reporting channels for safeguarding concerns and ensure timely response and escalation.

• Collaborate with HR and relevant departments to integrate safeguarding into field activities.

• Ensure risk assessments include safeguarding considerations and mitigation strategies for all project activities.
