Job Context:
∎ The district of Cox’s Bazar has seen intermittent influxes of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals for nearly three decades, driven by waves of persecution in their home country. As of January 31, 2022, about 920,994 Rohingya currently live in these two sub-districts, forming a pseudo-economy embedded within the pre-existing local economy that is almost entirely sustained by external humanitarian assistance. Approximately 53% of the Rohingya refugee population are women and girls. The poorest and most marginalized women and girls, as well as diverse gender groups, have been disproportionately affected by the gendered impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lack of access to basic services and livelihood opportunities for displaced women and girls is putting them at high risk of GBV. Women, particularly adolescent girls, are also at heightened risk of becoming victims of human trafficking, sexual abuse and exploitation, or forced marriage for these reasons. AGRAJATTRA conducted a FGD with 90 people (50% female); it found polygamy, conflict among Rohingya and host, GVB, lack of access to IGA, and a lack of basic needs.
∎ Our approach is to promote the socio-economic recovery, participation, and leadership of women and young women in forced displacement contexts. Its other objective is to create access to local government and local power structures.
∎ AGRAJATTRA and UN-Women have entered into a partnership to ensure the socio-economic and leadership well-being of vulnerable displaced women and young women with:
