Responsibilities & Context:
∎ The key responsibilities of the professional counselor is to help building capacity, supervise and mentor Mental Motivators (MMs) for improvement of quality mental health care to the leprosy patients so that the services through MMs are institutionalized within the federation enabling to continue beyond the project life . S/he will also be responsible for counseling the people affected by leprosy and other disability with an aim to ensure mental well-being. The main responsibilities include but not limited to:
∎ 1. Development of various tools, materials, etc. for training and promotion and facilitation various discussion relating to mental health and counselling
∎ 2. Capacity assessment of Mental Motivator and provide on the job training and orientation as and when is necessary
∎ 3. Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to the Mental Motivators on standard counseling tools and technique
∎ 4. Provide individual or group counseling, advice and support to targeted beneficiaries on a range of personal issues of concern with an aim to reduce stigma and discrimination
∎ 5. Take lead role for the capacity building of Mental Motivator and other project staff on mental health issues
∎ 6. Prepare monthly counseling plan and progress reports and submit to Project Manager
∎ 7. Develop structural counseling mechanism and proper documentation
∎ 8. Assess whether clients may have other problems, that need specialist attention and refer them as required
∎ .9. Maintain all necessary documents maintaining confidentiality and recall system for those clients who may need follow-up.
∎ 10. Maintain liaison and good communication with the district hospital mental health department as well as specialized govt. mental health hospital for referral services.
∎ 11. Monitoring of MMs through field visits and with sample verification of the effectiveness of counseling
∎ 12. Carry out home and follow-up visits to patients
∎ 13. Participate in SSG meetings and federation periodical meetings and give an update
∎ 14. Take the lead to case base follow-up mechanism
∎ 15. Participate in the assessments like PHQ-9 or stigma survey
∎ 16. Support the Federation of Leprosy patients with plans and strategies for the sustainability of mental services beyond project life.
