A demonstrable record of achievement in academic administration, quality assurance, research management, faculty development, university governance, and institutional strategic planning.
Sound working knowledge of the regulatory framework governing private universities in Bangladesh, including the Private University Act, 2010, and UGC guidelines.
Strong international academic presence and recognition within the global higher education sector.
Widely involved in international academic networks and acknowledged within the academic community.
An internationally engaged academic with a visible profile and established reputation in the scholarly community.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Pro-Vice Chancellor (PVC) will provide strategic leadership across the university’s core priority areas of institutional strategy, academic development, graduate employability, and internationalisation. Working closely with the Vice-Chancellor, the PVC will drive innovation in teaching and learning, strengthen global partnerships, and enhance graduate outcomes to position the university as a leading institution in Bangladesh and the wider region. The Pro Vice Chancellor occupies a pivotal position within the University's senior leadership structure, serving as the principal deputy to the Vice Chancellor and sharing direct responsibility for the academic integrity, operational effectiveness, and strategic progress of the institution. The incumbent brings both intellectual authority and administrative acumen to bear across the full range of academic and institutional functions, ensuring that the University's commitments to quality, governance, and student success are consistently upheld. Working in close partnership with the Vice Chancellor, the Pro Vice Chancellor provides cohesive leadership to Deans, Department Heads, Directors, and academic administrators, translating institutional strategy into day-to-day academic operations. The role carries formal delegated authority to act on behalf of the Vice Chancellor during periods of absence or as circumstances require, and demands a leader of proven academic distinction, sound judgement, and the interpersonal capability to inspire confidence across a diverse institutional community. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Academic Operations & Leadership
• Lead the development and implementation of the university’s strategic plan, aligning education, graduate employability, and internationalisation priorities.
• Support the Vice Chancellor in translating the University's vision, mission, and strategic objectives into coherent academic development plans and operational priorities.
• Provide direct leadership and day-to-day oversight of all academic operations across Faculties, Schools, Institutes, and Departments, ensuring consistently high standards of delivery.
• Guide and support Deans, Heads of Departments, Directors, and academic administrators in fulfilling their academic mandates and maintaining institutional alignment.
• Champion excellence in teaching, curriculum innovation, active learning methodologies, and interdisciplinary academic programmes.
• Monitor academic performance indicators across all units and lead the design and implementation of continuous improvement strategies where required.
• Promote student-centred learning, including digital, blended, and experiential approaches.
2. Academic Governance & Regulatory Compliance
• Oversee enhancement of teaching quality, curriculum innovation, and academic standard
• Coordinate and support the effective functioning of the Academic Council, Syndicate, and all other relevant academic committees, ensuring decisions are properly documented and acted upon.
• Ensure timely and accurate implementation of decisions approved by the Vice Chancellor and statutory bodies throughout the academic administration.
• Maintain full compliance with the Private University Act, 2010, UGC regulations, Ministry of Education directives, University Statutes, and all applicable quality assurance standards.
• Lead the review, development, and periodic update of academic regulations, policies, and institutional procedures to reflect best practice and regulatory requirements.
3. Faculty Development & Institutional Culture
• Lead and coordinate faculty recruitment planning in line with equal opportunity principles as well as regulations of the UGC, professional orientation, mentoring, performance evaluation, and succession planning across all academic departments.
• Promote sustained professional growth through structured training programmes, research engagement, opportunities for advanced study, international academic collaboration, and conference/ research participation.
• Provide guidance and training to Deans, Associate Deans & Department Heads to strengthen departmental leadership capacity, faculty engagement, and collective academic performance.
• Foster and sustain an institutional culture defined by academic rigour, ethical conduct, innovation, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement. 4. Academic Quality Assurance
• Oversee systematic curriculum review, programme evaluation, learning outcome assessment, and institutional quality improvement cycles across all academic offerings.
• Provide leadership and operational support to the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and drive the University's engagement with national and international accreditation bodies.
• Track and analyse academic quality indicators, identify areas requiring intervention, and recommend targeted corrective actions to the Vice Chancellor.
• Advance the adoption of innovative and evidence-based teaching methodologies, technology enhanced learning, and digital transformation across academic programmes.
• Develop strategy for Programme and module feedback, lecturers review on academic performance and monitoring progress of the exam boards and any action plans.
5. Research, Innovation & International Collaboration
• Cultivate a dynamic research environment by supporting scholarly publications, externally funded grants, industry consultancy, patents, and research commercialisation initiatives. • Strengthen collaborative research partnerships with national and international universities, industries, research institutions, and academic networks.
• Actively encourage and facilitate faculty and student participation in research projects, academic conferences, mobility programmes, and international partnerships. 6. Student Affairs & Academic Support
• Oversee the design and delivery of academic support systems that promote student success, retention, timely graduation, and strong employability outcomes.
• Coordinate with the Proctorial Body, Student Affairs Office, and academic units to maintain student discipline, welfare, academic integrity, and a safe campus environment.
• Promote meaningful student leadership opportunities, extracurricular engagement, entrepreneurial initiatives, and structured career development pathways.
7. Institutional Development & Strategic Initiatives
• Lead cross-institutional initiatives and ensure effective internal coordination and delivery.
• Assist the Vice Chancellor in implementing the University's Strategic Plan, coordinating institutional development initiatives, and monitoring progress against defined milestones.
• Lead and coordinate the development of new academic programmes, digital transformation projects, academic capacity expansion, and internationalisation strategies.
• Conduct ongoing monitoring of institutional performance data and provide evidence-based recommendations to strengthen operational and academic effectiveness.
8. External Relations & Partnerships
• Build strategic alliances with leading global universities and research institutions.
• Enhance international student recruitment and support services.
• Promote global perspectives within curriculum and research initiatives.
• Represent the University at academic, professional, governmental, accreditation, and international forums as formally delegated by the Vice Chancellor.
• Develop and nurture strategic partnerships with peer universities, industry stakeholders, professional bodies, accreditation agencies, alumni networks, and development partners.
• Actively promote the University's academic reputation, research capacity, and institutional standing through purposeful collaboration and public engagement.
9. Delegated & Additional Responsibilities
• Assume the full executive responsibilities of the Vice Chancellor during periods of planned or unplanned absence, or as formally delegated, in accordance with University Statutes and applicable laws.
• Undertake any further responsibilities assigned by the Vice Chancellor or the Board of Trustees, consistent with the University's policies, strategic priorities, and regulatory obligations.
