Job Summary:

A pharmacist working in a Model Pharmacy is responsible for ensuring the safe, proper, and effective management and dispensing of medicines. The key responsibilities include:

1. Prescription Verification

   • Check prescriptions carefully before dispensing medicines.

   • Verify the medicine name, strength, dosage, and duration.

   • Clarify any unclear or inappropriate prescription with the prescriber.

2. Proper Dispensing of Medicines

   • Dispense the correct medicine to the correct patient.

   • Provide accurate dosage and administration instructions.

   • Ensure proper labeling of medicines.

3. Patient Counseling

   • Explain how, when, and for how long medicines should be taken.

   • Inform patients about possible side effects, precautions, and storage requirements.

   • Encourage patients to follow the prescribed treatment properly.

4. Medicine Storage and Safety

   • Store medicines according to recommended temperature and environmental conditions.

   • Separate expired, damaged, recalled, or unusable medicines.

   • Regularly check expiry dates and maintain proper stock rotation.

5. Inventory and Stock Management

   • Maintain accurate records of medicine purchases, sales, and stock.

   • Monitor stock levels and prevent shortages or overstocking.

   • Follow the FEFO (First Expiry, First Out) system where appropriate.

6. Quality Assurance

   • Ensure that medicines are obtained from authorized and reliable sources.

   • Check the packaging, batch number, expiry date, and physical condition of medicines.

   • Prevent the sale or distribution of counterfeit or substandard medicines.

7. Record Keeping

   • Maintain prescriptions, invoices, stock records, and other required documents.

   • Keep records of controlled or specially regulated medicines as required by law.

8. Patient Privacy and Professional Ethics

   • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.

   • Treat all patients respectfully and professionally.

   • Follow applicable pharmacy laws, regulations, and professional standards.

9. Coordination with Healthcare Professionals

   • Communicate with doctors and other healthcare professionals when necessary.

   • Report suspected adverse drug reactions or medication-related problems through appropriate channels.

10. Health Education

    • Provide reliable information about medicines and responsible medicine use.

    • Advise patients not to misuse antibiotics or other medicines.

    • Promote general health and disease-prevention awareness.
