Responsibilities & Context: Role Profile:
- Reporting to the Nutrition Supervisor – Nutritionist, the overall purpose of the position is facilitating cooking demonstration sessions at the facility as well as community level, messaging and counselling to caregivers and beneficiaries attending services in the OTP, TSFP and the BSFP Centre. She will also demonstrate the preparation of supplementary food provided to BSFP beneficiaries and disseminate a range of health and nutrition messages including breastfeeding, hand washing, dietary diversity, among others geared at influencing adoption of appropriate behaviour change around maternal infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN). In addition, Cooking Demonstration Promoter will facilitate and ensure the "Mukhe Vaat ceremony" at facility and community levels for the children who completed 6 months of age. She will also support health education at facilities and supervise Health Educator Volunteers. She will be responsible to perform other activities requested by her supervisor based on project need.
Responsibilities:
- Organize cooking demonstration and Mukhe vaat sessions according to microplan.
- To give appropriate messages and techniques (cutting, washing, chopping and cooking) on how to prepare nutritious food for their child with locally available foods.
- In liaison with the Nutrition Supervisor-Nutritionist and Community Nutrition Supervisor to ensure preparation and dissemination of cooking demonstration practices, messages at the center on a range of topics around MIYCN and CMAM.
- Demonstrate preparation of supplementary food (Super cereal and super cereal+) provided to Children under five and PLWs from the BSFP component.
- Lead the organization and facilitation of participatory cooking sessions to develop nutritious complementary feeding recipes with support from community volunteers.
- Organize "Mukhe Vaat Ceremony" at facility with support from community Nutrition Supervisor for the children of 6 to 8 months of age.
- Home visit to follow up the appropriate practices are followed by mothers and caregivers to prepare nutritious recipes.
- Take feedback after completing every session (cooking demo and mukhe Vaat).
- Along with Health educators, motivate caregivers to make healthy changes and adopt recommended health and nutrition practices including encouraging them to attend nutrition services within the nutrition sites.
- Message among mothers and caregivers of IYCF children to sensitize them on nutrition, hygiene and care practices.
- Contribute to the development of health and nutrition promotion messages to convey to the targeted community members including review of suitability of existing IEC materials within the response·
- Supervise Health Educator Volunteers. Lead the capacity building activities for health educator volunteers on health, nutrition, hygiene and health education for caregivers of beneficiaries attending OTP/TSFP and BSFP services.
- Compile weekly activity reports of Cooking Demonstration and Mukhe Vaat and health education and share with the Nutrition supervisor (Nutritionist).
- Prepare ad-hoc reports as requested and timely submit to Nutrition Supervisor (Nutritionist)Participate in trainings as requested·
- Other assigned task/s report by supervisor.
