Diploma / BSc in Medical Technology (Laboratory / Transfusion Medicine) from a recognized institute.
Minimum 1–3 years of experience in a Transfusion Medicine Department / Blood Bank.
Experience in a tertiary care hospital will be preferred.
Sound knowledge of transfusion medicine principles and blood bank procedures.
High level of accuracy, responsibility, and attention to detail.
Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency situations.
Good communication skills and teamwork ability.
Willingness to work in shifts, night duty, weekends, and holidays.
Job Purpose
To provide safe, efficient, and accurate transfusion medicine services by performing all technical and laboratory activities related to blood grouping, cross-matching, blood component preparation, storage, and issuance in accordance with hospital policy, national guidelines, and international transfusion standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Laboratory & Transfusion Services
Perform ABO and Rh blood grouping, antibody screening, and cross-matching as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Ensure compatibility testing before issuance of blood and blood components.
Handle emergency and massive transfusion requirements promptly and accurately.
2. Blood Component Management
Prepare and process blood components such as Packed Red Cells, Platelets, Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP), and Cryoprecipitate.
Ensure proper labeling, storage, handling, and transportation of blood and blood components.
Monitor blood stock levels and expiry dates to minimize wastage.
3. Donor Screening & Collection
Assist in donor selection, screening, and blood collection as per hospital and national blood transfusion guidelines.
Ensure donor safety, proper documentation, and post-donation care.
4. Quality Control & Safety
Perform daily quality control of reagents, kits, and blood bank equipment.
Maintain infection control, biosafety measures, and biomedical waste management protocols.
Participate in internal quality assurance and external quality assessment programs.
5. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of donor details, testing results, blood issue registers, discard records, and transfusion reactions.
Immediately report and document any transfusion reaction or adverse event to the concerned consultant.
Assist in preparation of reports for audits, inspections, and regulatory authorities.
6. Equipment Handling
Operate and maintain blood bank equipment including centrifuge, blood refrigerator, plasma freezer, incubator, and temperature monitoring devices.
Ensure routine calibration and maintenance of equipment as per schedule.
7. Coordination & Professional Conduct
Coordinate with clinicians, nurses, and ward staff regarding transfusion requirements.
Maintain confidentiality, ethical standards, and professional behavior at all times.
Participate in training, meetings, and continuing professional development programs of BSH.
