  • Age At least 20 years
  • Multicultural sensitivity and ability to work compassionate and effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds (and who are often vulnerable including those with mental health issues), and across the Rohingya language barrier;

  • At least 2 years work experience in Rohingya community.

  • Excellent writing ability and communication skills both in Bangla & English.

  • Demonstrable excellent organizational and communications skills.

  • Ability to work independently whilst being a good team-player.

  • Fluency in verbal and written English.

Desirable:

  • An understanding of the challenges faced by those seeking protection of GBV surviovors.

  • Prior experience of relevant legal casework.

  • Prior experience and/or training on matters relating to migration and the international and/or domestic legal frameworks.

  • Prior experience of case-management or equivalent data gathering systems.

  • Prior experience of direct NGO service delivery.

  • Understanding and experience of mental health and social welfare matters, and particularly those faced by people seeking international protection.

  • Experience working with vulnerable people in a professional setting.

  • Fluency in Chittagonian language.

Responsibilities & Context:

Purpose of position:

The Legal Officer works under the supervision of the Legal Counselor to ensure the highest standard of legal services are provided to GBV survivors of Rohingya & Host community .

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and assistance to the GBV survivors with close cooperation of CIC in the Rohingya Camp.

  • Maintain regular communication and cooperation with the case worker and space supervisor of IOM.

  • Provide Legal counseling to the survivors and family members of survivors.

  • Fact finding of the cases; by maintaining confidentiality and GBV guideline.

  • Maintaining cooperation and coordination with the Majhi, submajhi & local govt. representatives.

  • Maintaining communication and cooperation with the likeminded organizations.

  • Regular need based visit to Rohingya camp and receive cases from concern authority and prepare plan for remedy.

  • Prepare weekly, monthly and periodic report as per the demand of the supervisor.

  • Participate in the design and delivery of legal trainings, meeting and workshop.

  • Conduct legal awareness session, mediation with the support of concerned authority.

  • Communication and coordination with the police station and taking necessary legal steps (FIR, GD, Petition) as per need.

  • Manage a caseload of survivors and ensure need based medical as part of legal action.

  • Communication and coordination with panel lawyers, OCC and other legal agencies.

  • Support the Legal Team in developing the substance and quality of assigned legal program, including group and individual legal information and assistance services.

  • Good communication and coordination with IOM protection Team and other likeminded organization.

  • Contribute to developing legal resources for staff, pro bono partners, clinic students, fellows and volunteers, including templates, training materials and legal information;

  • Contribute to building the profile including attending speaking engagements with stakeholders within the legal and donor communication.

  • Contribute to direct delivery of legal services, including delivering legal information sessions and providing legal assistance to clients;

  • Contribute to proposals and reports to supervisor and donors as per need, including annual reports;

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Legal Counselor and Senior authority.
