Experience:
• M.Sc in Engineering in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE)/ Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
• 10–12 years of relevant experience, including at least 3–5 years in a head position, preferably in a hospital, eye hospital or healthcare facility.
• Proven and demonstrated track record of successfully LEADING Engineering and Maintenance operations within a large-scale hospital, multi-specialty healthcare facility, or equivalent complex infrastructure environment.
• Additional professional certifications in Project Management (PMP)/ NEBOSH / IOSH (for safety and compliance)/ ISO 45001 is the primary international standard for Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Management Systems.
• Strategic planning and execution of large-scale engineering and infrastructure projects within healthcare environments.
• Expertise in Biomedical Equipment Management including lifecycle planning, calibration, and per-formance monitoring.
Strong financial acumen including budget development, cost control, and procurement management
• Excellent leadership, team building, and people management capabilities with the ability to moti-vate multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• High-level analytical and problem-solving abilities with a systematic, risk-based approach to decision making.
• Sound knowledge of occupational health and safety standards, infection prevention protocols relevant to engineering activities, and applicable environmental management regulations.
• Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills at both operational and executive levels.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects under pressure while maintaining quality, safety, and compliance standards.
Job Summary:
The Head, Engineering & Maintenance Department will be responsible for leading and optimizing the hospital’s overall engineering, maintenance, utilities, and facility management functions. The role will ensure the availability, reliability, safety, and efficiency of critical infrastructure and equipment to support uninterrupted business operations and long-term hospital objectives. The position will drive preventive and predictive maintenance, cost optimization, energy efficiency, operational improve-ment, and engineering innovation. Strong leadership, strategic planning, technical expertise, and cross-functional collaboration will be essential to enhance operational reliability and deliver sustain-able engineering performance.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic direction and executive-level oversight for the hospital's entire Engineering and Maintenance department, including development and implementation of short-term and long-term infrastructure strategies, capital investment plans, and maintenance master plans.
Ensure the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of all hospital systems and equipment including HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, medical gas pipelines, fire detection and suppression, elevator systems, biomedical and diagnostic equipment, and all civil structures.
Lead the development, implementation, and continuous monitoring of a comprehensive Preventive Maintenance Program (PMP) for all hospital assets, ensuring maximum uptime, extended asset lifespan, and full regulatory compliance.
Oversee and manage all hospital construction, renovation, and expansion projects from planning through commissioning, coordinating with architects, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
Lead and coordinate the hospital's Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity Planning for engineering and infrastructure, including maintenance of backup power systems, emergency response protocols, and disaster recovery procedures.
Develop, implement, and monitor the hospital's Biomedical Equipment Management Programme including lifecycle management, calibration schedules, performance testing, and vendor service agreements for all clinical and diagnostic equipment
Identify training and development needs of all engineering and maintenance personnel; develop structured competency development programmes; conduct regular performance appraisals; and ensure succession planning within the department.
Prepare and present regular management reports on department performance, KPIs, asset condition assessments, maintenance completion rates, incident reports, and capital project status to the CEO and Hospital Management Committee.
Enhance operational efficiency, track work orders, manage asset inventories, generate maintenance reports, and support data-driven decision making.
Manage and negotiate service-level agreements (SLAs) and Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs) with external vendors and contractors; oversee their performance, compliance, and quality of service delivery
Ensure all engineering documentation, as-built drawings, equipment manuals, maintenance logs, inspection records, and regulatory certificates are maintained in an organized, updated, and readily accessible manner at all times.
