Responsibilities & Context:
Assist the Consultant Gastroenterologist in performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as Upper GI Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, ERCP, Sigmoidoscopy, and other related procedures.
Prepare the endoscopy suite and ensure that all required instruments, accessories, and equipment are ready before each procedure.
Maintain strict aseptic techniques and ensure adherence to infection control protocols throughout the procedures.
Handle, clean, disinfect, and sterilize endoscopic instruments and accessories following hospital guidelines and manufacturer recommendations.
Operate and maintain endoscopy equipment, including light sources, video processors, and suction units, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
Assist in patient preparation, including verifying patient identity, explaining the procedure, and ensuring appropriate pre-procedure requirements are met.
Monitor patients during and after procedures, ensuring comfort and promptly reporting any complications to the Consultant.
Collect, label, and dispatch biopsy or specimen samples appropriately for laboratory processing.
Maintain accurate documentation of procedures, equipment usage, and sterilization logs.
Coordinate with nursing staff, biomedical engineering, and housekeeping for the smooth functioning of the endoscopy unit.
To work as a consultant attendant when there is no Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy and other related procedures.
