∎ BBC News Bangla brings quality, impartial, original journalism to Bengali-speaking audiences in Bangladesh and around the world on digital and TV. Its multimedia content, available on www.bbc.com/bengali and on social media platforms, reaches on average 2.9 million people on a weekly basis. BBC News Bangla TV programmes are watched by an average of 8.5 million people each week through co-productions with Channel i.
∎ We are looking to recruit three Digital Journalists to join our talented team in Dhaka.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ We are looking for a motivated and outstanding journalist to join the BBC Bangla digital team in Dhaka to deliver the very best journalism to Bangladeshi audiences, as well as Bangla-speaking audiences worldwide and the wider BBC for audiences across all platforms.
∎ Key responsibilities will include: To work for BBC News Bangla to produce materials for digital output including text and video for the BBC Bangla website and social media platforms.
∎ To produce daily news coverage and high impact, exclusive content that works on BBC Bangla's platforms.
∎ Exercise editorial judgement in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.
∎ Maintain a close working relationship with the Shift leads and the BBC Bangla Editor and to maintain clear and regular communication with them.
∎ Take a lead within a team setting or on delivering a specific piece of journalism or project as appropriate.
∎ To prioritise and plan activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resources available.
∎ To plan for the upcoming news events in coordination with the editorial leads.
∎ Delivering on tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Age at least 18 years
∎ Must be fluent in written and spoken Bangla and a good command of English.
∎ Significant recent experience as a journalist, with an excellent understanding of producing high quality digital content.
∎ An understanding of the Bangladeshi media landscape and audience needs
∎ An understanding of social media platforms, content and audiences
∎ Knowledge of analytics and other tools to understand audience metrics will be an added advantage.
∎ Ability to write creatively in an engaging manner, adapt, produce and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media suitable for multimedia output.
∎ Significant knowledge on specific subjects including, but not limited to politics, business, law or sports will also be an added advantage.
∎ Demonstrate sound editorial decisions based upon a clear understanding of the BBC's distinctive news agenda and the Bangladeshi news context.
∎ The ability to work flexible hours when required including on weekends if necessary.
