Society for Health Extension and Development (SHED) is a national non-governmental organization that has been working in Bangladesh since 1989. SHED is currently implementing various projects in Health, Nutrition, WASH, Food Security, Protection, and DRR with support from UN agencies and international partners.
In partnership with Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation, SHED is seeking a qualified and dynamic professional for its project: "Inclusive Cities for Nutrition (IC4N) – 18-Month Cost Extension."
Location: Cox’s Bazar Pourashava (Municipality)
Contract Duration: 18 Months (Initial contract for 1 year, extendable)
Job Purpose: To implement community outreach and engagement activities that drive nutrition interventions in alignment with project targets, fostering a nutrition-sensitive food system within the Cox’s Bazar Municipality.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive community assessments to identify and select project participants in a transparent and merit-based manner.
Perform stakeholder and community mapping to facilitate service orientation and ensure inclusive engagement within the slums of Cox’s Bazar Municipality (CBM).
Identify and select Local Service Providers (LSPs) specializing in urban agriculture and gardening within the CBM area.
Form or reform Women’s Groups, Youth/Adolescent "Listening Groups," and Slum Improvement Committees (SICs) in targeted urban slums.
Organize and facilitate capacity-building training for slum dwellers on Diversified Integrated Homestead Gardening (DIGS) using climate-smart technologies (Vertical, Multi-layer, Sack, and Pit gardening).
Provide agricultural input support to training participants and establish vertical gardening demonstration plots within the slums.
Train and mentor LSPs to ensure they provide high-quality, ongoing technical support to beneficiary households for homestead gardening.
Conduct 800 community-based sessions (courtyard meetings, peer groups, and classroom sessions for teachers/students) focusing on balanced diets, BMI calculation, and malnutrition.
Facilitate hands-on demonstrations on handwashing, innovative cooking techniques, and the use of nutrition-related digital apps and hotline resources.
Reach 2,400 consumers through targeted awareness campaigns, day observations, and community competitions (quizzes, cooking contests, and experience sharing).
Organize and facilitate meetings, workshops, and dialogues involving CBM officials, private/public service providers, and community committees to strengthen local food systems.
Lead sensitization meetings to raise community awareness on PSEA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) and safeguarding protocols.
Provide active support to Slum Improvement Committees (SIC) and mentor "Lead Mothers" to ensure long-term sustainability of nutritional practices.
Organize monthly coordination meetings with community groups to track progress and address challenges.
Act as a frontline responder to ensure safety measures and distribute aid during emergencies or natural disasters within the project area.
