∎ About the project:
∎ Social Action of Voluntary Efforts (SAVE) is a non-governmental and non-profit organization of Lakshmipur District. The organization has undertaken a program titled Development of Community Arts Against Rohingya Genocide Project in Bangladesh funded by International Coalition of Sites of Conscience (ICSC), focused on truth-telling activities through arts and crafts, which not only help prepare individuals/communities for more intensive truth-telling processes such as documentation, skill building on arts and crafts, but also supports ongoing healing and resilience-building. This initiative will create an impact in the Rohingya camps to foster collective truth-telling and break some of the silences that have resulted from the trauma of violence and forced displacement.
∎ Job Purpose:
∎ SAVE, is now looking for an audio-visual artist/film maker to carry out the project needs under the project titled Development of Community Arts Against Rohingya Genocide Project in Bangladesh.
∎ The employee has to work with the Bangladeshi core team and artists as well as Rohingya artists and community participants in the refugee camps. Hence, working experience in community level especially in humanitarian context is a priority.
∎ The eligible candidate must have a clear understanding of creative and participatory processes and willing to work with artists; both Bangladeshi and Rohingya.
∎ The candidate must abide by the work ethics and organizational philosophy of SAVE.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Plan and facilitate project documentation through photography, audio and video making and editing with the Rohingya participants to produce a complete community film/documentation/story, activities and workshops, ad-hoc training for community members including women, children, elderly and persons with disabilities.
∎ Documentation of the project and maintain scheduled outputs through photo story and short documentary.
∎ Support the development of the curricula, in collaboration with Rohingya participants and the project coordinator, for a series of workshops/ classes designed to collect Rohingya stories and develop video techniques and share technical knowledge to members across the camp community.
∎ Assist in the delivery of the workshops/ classes, including helping build confidence and capacity of art participants to deliver the classes, and other support.
∎ Engage actively in workshops with Rohingya individuals and key community members to define how their identity, true stories should be portrayed.
∎ Identify and engage key creative men and women and nurture their talent through creative processes and production of outcomes.
∎ Support the Project Coordinator in the day-to-day management at site level of an effective coordination system of service provision of the Rohingya community truth telling through arts.
∎ Manage the acquisition of materials and equipment necessary for the documentation related activities.
∎ Coordinate a weekly/monthly plan of art activities, including weekly plans, team meetings, ad-hoc training and producing outcomes for the project collection.
∎ Collaborate with other agencies/organizations in partnership with the SAVE.
∎ Conduct relevant Photography/videography workshops for volunteers, key community members and others.
∎ Document the processes and outputs resulting from workshops and archive accordingly in the repository/archive.
∎ Maintain appropriate links with different stakeholders and agencies including effective coordination and information exchange with them.
∎ Facilitate and guide donor and press visits in guidance collaboration with volunteers.
∎ Documentation of the ongoing process of work for the core team, special events- exhibitions, community gathering
∎ Support the curator and core team with any other tasks that might be identified or relevant to the nature of the project.
∎ Report to and consult directly with the project coordinator regarding any issues that may arise.
∎ Respect the community and their culture and be sensitive about cultural and gender diversity.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Fluency in English and Bangla required, proficiency and understanding of the local language an asset.
∎ Strong knowledge of and experience in applying international human rights standards and practices, with an understanding of the Rohingya context.
∎ Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team management skills.
∎ Ability to work independently, take initiative, and prioritize tasks effectively.
∎ Good skills with camera in photography, videography and editing as a full production.
∎ Previous experience managing and disseminating tasks with small teams, teaching, mentoring community people
∎ Understanding of cultural diversity
∎ Experience in doing basic ethnographic research with refugee communities
∎ Experience in producing work plans, setting goals and writing reports
∎ Working knowledge of MS Office, MS excel, Adobe premiere pro, Adobe photoshop, Adobe illustrator
∎ Previous experience teaching art or community arts programs
∎ Good practical knowledge of techniques of using camera/mobile phone/tab for photography, videography and editing,
∎ Knowledge of arts and design is an asset
∎ Having attention for detail and ability to solve problems in creative ways
∎ Show sensibility while working with refugees
∎ Ability to work under pressure and out-of-working hours
∎ Practical knowledge of teaching photography and videography is an asset
∎ Experience in delivering workshops with women and young girls
∎ Good understanding of new technologies and digital platforms and stay updated regarding innovations in audio-visual domain.
