Educational Requirements:
∎ B.Sc/M.Sc in fish biology and biotechnology/ Aquatic Animal Health Management.
Experience Requirements:
∎ At least 3 year(s)
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Provide and maintain a complete program of veterinary care for Hatchery and fish culture.
∎ Offer preventative medicine, give care-giving advice, develop and recommend policy changes that affect aquatic populations.
∎ Give immunizations, suggest dietary changes, help endangered species repopulate, and stifle the spread of disease.
∎ Conduct active and passive surveillance programs, conducting biosecurity audits and providing evidence-based decision making leading to sound health policy.
∎ Working alongside veterinary and curatorial staff to ensure after-hours triage and technical support in the event of medical emergencies.
∎ Collect, or assist with collection of, biological samples from resident and rehabilitating species.
∎ Assist with shipment acclimation. allocating space, cleaning tanks, and preparing system for new arrivals and transfers between systems.
∎ Maintain laboratory in a clean and organized manner.
∎ Administer, or dispense to Husbandry staff for administration, medications according to the compliance to standards for controlled substances.
∎ Maintain accurate detailed records utilizing written log sheets and computer databases regarding colony health, water quality parameters, fish breeding and housing or support areas.
∎ Ensure lab equipment is properly maintained, cleaned and stored after each use.
∎ Evaluate samples in own lab and/or prepare for submission to outside laboratories.
∎ Correspond and coordinate with outside veterinarian regarding fish care, medical procedures and rehabilitation.
∎ Conduct weekly inventory on medications / supplies and submit purchase requisitions to the supply chain department for re- ordering.
∎ Identify, document, and report actions and findings related to daily duties as requested.
Additional Requirements:
∎ To be selected for this role you will have a minimum of 3 years fish disease control and aqua medicine and 1 year people management experience.
∎ Detailed understanding of Fish Pathology, Immunology & Parasitology.
∎ Practical experience in Disease Control and Medicine management
∎ Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally, especially as it pertains to SOP's
∎ Strong leadership and strategic planning ability
∎ Time bound & ability to work under pressure.
∎ Good team player, well-organized, initiative and detail-oriented
∎ Good intellectual and analytical skills.
∎ Problem Solving and Decision-Making Capabilities.
