Job Summary
The Specialist / Registrar in Neurosurgery dept. is responsible for providing comprehensive clinical care to patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions, including assessment, diagnosis, surgical and non-surgical management, post-operative care, and emergency neurosurgical services.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Examine, assess, and diagnose patients with neurological and neurosurgical disorders.
Provide appropriate surgical and non-surgical treatment plans based on clinical findings and investigations.
Perform neurosurgical procedures and operations within the scope of professional qualifications and hospital privileges.
Manage emergency neurosurgical cases, including head injuries, intracranial hemorrhage, spinal emergencies, and other life-threatening conditions.
Review and interpret relevant investigations, including CT scans, MRI, angiography, and other neurological diagnostic tests.
Conduct pre-operative assessments and obtain informed consent from patients or their authorized representatives.
Provide post-operative monitoring and management, including identification and treatment of complications.
Conduct regular ward rounds and follow up patients throughout their hospitalization.
Collaborate with neurologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, rehabilitation specialists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical records, operative notes, discharge summaries, and other clinical documentation.
Ensure appropriate use of medications, investigations, blood products, and other clinical resources.
Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case discussions, clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality-improvement activities.
Follow hospital policies, clinical guidelines, infection-prevention procedures, patient-safety standards, and applicable professional regulations.
Provide counseling and education to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical risks, expected outcomes, and follow-up care.
Participate in teaching and supervision of junior doctors, medical officers and other clinical staff as applicable.
Maintain professional knowledge and skills through continuing medical education, training, research, and professional development.
Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards and patients’ rights.
Participate in on-call and emergency duties according to the department's roster.
Coordinate timely referrals and transfers of patients when specialized or higher-level care is required.
Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental protocols, clinical pathways, and service-improvement initiatives.
Perform any other duties related to neurosurgical services as assigned by the Head of Department or authorized hospital management.
