Duty Station: Hope Field Hospital (CEmONC, Camp 4, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar
1. Job Purpose
The Senior Medical Officer (Gynae & Obs) is responsible for providing high-quality Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) services, ensuring clinical excellence, and leading the maternity team in a challenging field hospital setting. The role focuses on reducing maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality through evidence-based interventions, effective team supervision, and adherence to national and international standards.
2. Key Responsibilities
2.1 Clinical Services
Provide 24/7 CEmONC services including antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care
Manage obstetric and gynecological emergencies (PPH, eclampsia, sepsis, obstructed labor)
Perform emergency surgical procedures (CS, laparotomy, assisted vaginal delivery)
Ensure adherence to WHO and national clinical protocols
2.2 Operation Theatre & Emergency Care
Supervise OT activities and ensure surgical safety compliance
Lead emergency triage, stabilization, and rapid clinical decision-making
Coordinate with anesthesia and OT teams for timely interventions
2.3 Neonatal Care
Ensure immediate newborn care and neonatal resuscitation
Manage neonatal complications including birth asphyxia and sepsis
2.4 Quality Assurance & Clinical Governance
Ensure compliance with SOPs, guidelines, and protocols
Conduct clinical audits and maternal/perinatal death reviews
Implement quality improvement initiatives
2.5 Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)
Ensure strict adherence to IPC standards
Monitor sterilization, waste management, and PPE use
2.6 Team Leadership & Capacity Building
Supervise and mentor clinical staff
Conduct regular training and emergency drills
Support performance evaluation of staff
2.7 Coordination & Reporting
Coordinate with internal departments and referral facilities
Maintain proper documentation and reporting (DHIS2/HMIS)
Support donor reporting requirements
2.8 Logistics & Resource Management
Monitor availability of essential drugs and supplies
Ensure rational use of medicines and equipment
2.9 Ethical & Patient-Centered Care
Ensure confidentiality, informed consent, and respectful maternity care
2.10 Emergency Preparedness & Administration
Participate in disaster preparedness and response
Act as shift in-charge/duty lead when assigned
3. Required Qualifications & Experience
Education
MBBS (recognized institution) with 1-year PGT Training
Valid BMDC registration
Postgraduate training (FCPS Part-I / MCPS / DGO) – preferred
Experience
Minimum 5–7 years of clinical experience
At least 2–3 years in CEmONC/EmONC settings
Experience in humanitarian/field hospital settings – highly preferred
