∎ Food systems thinking within planetary boundaries is essential to avoid potentially catastrophic effects on our collective health. A One Health approach, recognizing that human, animal, and environmental health are inter-dependent is more important now than ever before. WorldFish and partners are promoting the role of aquatic food systems in the global food systems framework. As part of this, WorldFish is implementing a project, in partnership with Cefas, the UK`s Centre for Environment and Fisheries Science, to better understand One Health risks within aquatic food systems in support of development of One Health governance mechanisms in Bangladesh. The project will work closely with a range of key Bangladesh stakeholders. These will include representatives from the relevant Bangladesh ministries/ competent Authorities (CAs) responsible for fisheries, livestock, public health and the environment.
∎ Eligibility, Location and Duration: This position will be based at WorldFish`s Country Office in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Interviews are expected to be held in November 2020 and only shortlisted candidates will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful candidate should be available to commence in November 2020.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Co-ordinate workshop on "Sustainable and Safe Seafood in Bangladesh" (Delivery in Dhaka with virtual attendance by Cefas and WorldFish team members) and support to identifying key authorities involved with "One Health" and aquatic food chains in Bangladesh. Engage with responsible authorities covering the broad policies associated with aquatic food production (i.e. environment, animal health, human health, trade etc.) and involve them in the preparations and conducting of the workshop. Support write up of the workshop report and dissemination with all stakeholders.
∎ Liaison with Competent Authorities (CAs)/stakeholders/experts to review, gather and analyze existing information (published, grey literature, reports) to do Baseline analysis of One Health metrics associated with the Bangladesh aquatic food system which will be completed using success metrics from a recently published One Health paper. This will involve assistance with development and dissemination of a questionnaire which focuses on identifying specific hazards in aquatic food production, consumption and trade. Assistance to post questionnaire to gather information for identified gaps and contribute to report and write-up.
∎ Organize and convene regular series of virtual meetings with the concerned One Health national CAs, researchers, experts. The Scientist will work closely with Cefas' OIE Collaborating Centre for Emerging aquatic animal diseases and the UK FAO Reference Centre for Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the UK to disseminate data on key hazards, diseases and AMR associated with current and future aquatic food production. Liaison with Cefas staff associated with the OIE Collaborating Centre for Emerging aquatic animal diseases and the UK FAO Reference Centre for AMR in the UK to train staff in data gathering, biological sample collection and processing for contaminants and AMR analyses. This leading to the co-creation of an online tool for identifying microbial hazards associated with aquatic food production in Bangladesh, and a central resource for future risk analysis for future risk analysis of specific sub-sectors of the industry.
∎ Establish technology transfer with official control labs. Liaise with official control labs and be the point of contact for technology transfer.
∎ Establish Pilot hazards and AMR surveillance program. Organize sampling, making field visits, collecting biological samples from farmed fish/shrimp purchased at wet markets, and be involved in the establishment and operation of the laboratory work required for the assessment of hazards and AMR risks to human health at points of consumption.
∎ Benefit ongoing programs at WorldFish, Cefas, and Bangladeshi national universities and Government laboratories with international high quality One Health research outcomes. Work closely with Cefas and WorldFish team members, develop a strong network of national collaborators.

Additional Requirements:
∎ This job is open to Bangladesh Nationals with the following skills and qualifications:
∎ At least two years (PhD) or four years (Masters) related research experience (e.g. field sampling, microbiology, pathology, molecular diagnostics, genetics, epidemiology, etc.) in Public Health, Livestock Health, Environmental Health or Aquatic Animal Health.
∎ Demonstrating deep technical and communication (peer-reviewed publications, presentations).
∎ Demonstrable ability to perform critical thinking on research issues in complex logistical or organizational settings.
∎ Strong commitment to work on research with implications for WorldFish and, its development outcomes and impact.
∎ Familiarity with software for data capture, storage, retrieval and analyses of data.
∎ Strong project and time management skills (incl. graduate student supervision).
∎ Ability and willingness to travel and able to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
∎ Strong publications and resource mobilization track record.
∎ Experience with the private sector, competent authorities and international organizations.
∎ Fluent in written and spoken English.
