A Quality Controller (QC) in the woven garments sector plays a critical role in ensuring product quality across all stages—from raw materials to final shipment. Their expertise in fabric, garment construction, and quality standards helps maintain brand reputation and buyer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Raw Material Inspection (Fabric & Trims)
Fabric Inspection: Use 4-Point/10-Point system to identify weaving faults, holes, stains, shading, GSM, bowing/skewing, etc.
Shrinkage Testing: Ensure fabric stability before cutting.
Shade Banding: Manage shade lots to prevent color mismatch.
Trims Check: Inspect zippers, buttons, labels for defects, color accuracy, and functionality.
Quantity Verification: Cross-check with BOM.
Cutting Section QC
Marker & Pattern Accuracy: Ensure correct layout, grainline, and shade grouping.
Spreading Control: Maintain tension, ply alignment, and mark defects before cutting.
Cut Panel Inspection: Check for precise cuts, notches, and complete garment parts.
Sewing Section QC
Pre-Production Meetings (PPM): Understand buyer standards and construction points.
Initial Production Check: Inspect pilot garments for fit, measurements, stitching.
In-Line Inspection:
Monitor stitching (SPI, seam strength, puckering, skipped stitches).
Check seam alignment, measurements, label placements, embroidery/print quality.
Use Traffic Light System to track quality performance.
End-Line Inspection: Final check before finishing—appearance, defects, measurements.
Finishing & Packing QC
Pressing/Spotting/Thread Trimming: Ensure clean finish without shine or stains.
Folding & Packaging: Follow buyer instructions for folding, poly bagging, and carton packing.
Metal Detection: Prevent contamination in final products.
Final Inspection (AQL)
AQL Sampling: Conduct Final Random Inspection as per AQL 2.5/4.0.
Defect Classification:
Critical: Safety issues
Major: Functionality or appearance flaws
Minor: Minor deviations
Reporting: Document results, defect types, and communicate with buyers/merchandisers.
Documentation & Quality Improvement
Record Keeping: Maintain inspection logs and test reports.
SOP Compliance: Ensure adherence to quality protocols.
Root Cause Analysis: Identify reasons for defects and collaborate on CAPA.
Team Training: Educate QC staff and operators on best practices.
