Responsibilities & Context
1. Position Overview
We are seeking a highly competent, experienced, and motivated Project Engineer (Civil Construction) with 8 - 10 years of practical experience in the execution and management of civil construction projects, particularly multi-storied building construction involving multiple basement levels.
The ideal candidate must possess a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from a reputed public or private university and have strong technical knowledge, hands-on site execution experience, and proven capabilities in managing construction activities from foundation to structural completion and finishing works.
The candidate should be capable of independently supervising site operations, coordinating with consultants and subcontractors, ensuring construction quality, maintaining project schedules, and achieving project targets within approved budgets.
2. Educational Qualification
B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from a reputed public or private university.
Relevant professional training or certifications in construction management, project planning, structural construction, or quality control will be an added advantage.
3. Professional Experience
8 - 10 years of practical experience in civil construction, preferably in real estate, high-rise buildings, or large-scale building projects.
Must have hands-on experience in multi-storied building construction, particularly projects involving one or more basement levels.
Strong experience in deep excavation, shoring, earth retention systems, dewatering, piling, pile caps, raft foundations, and basement structural works.
Proven experience in reinforced concrete (RCC) structures, including columns, beams, slabs, shear walls, retaining walls, and core walls.
Experience in coordinating construction activities from substructure to superstructure and finishing stages.
Experience working with consultants, architects, structural engineers, contractors, and subcontractors.
4. Key Responsibilities
A. Construction Planning and Execution
Plan, organize, and supervise day-to-day construction activities at the project site.
Ensure execution of construction works in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, BOQ, and construction methodology.
Manage and monitor multi-storied building construction, including basement, foundation, structural, and finishing works.
Ensure proper sequencing of construction activities to achieve project milestones.
Identify potential construction challenges and recommend practical engineering solutions.
B. Basement and Foundation Construction
Supervise deep excavation, shoring, soil stabilization, dewatering, and other basement-related construction activities.
Monitor piling, pile caps, raft foundations, retaining walls, and basement slabs.
Ensure proper implementation of waterproofing systems, construction joints, expansion joints, and water-stop arrangements.
Monitor basement structural integrity and ensure compliance with approved structural and geotechnical designs.
Coordinate with geotechnical consultants and specialist contractors where necessary.
C. Technical and Engineering Management
Review and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
Coordinate with design consultants for drawing clarifications, technical submissions, and resolution of site-related issues.
Review construction methods, material specifications, and technical submittals.
Prepare and verify material requirements, quantity estimates, and construction-related technical documents.
Identify discrepancies between drawings and actual site conditions and coordinate necessary corrective actions.
D. Quality Control and Assurance
Ensure construction activities comply with approved quality standards and project specifications.
Supervise concrete pouring, reinforcement placement, formwork, shuttering, and other critical construction operations.
Ensure proper implementation of QA/QC procedures, inspection requests, and testing protocols.
Monitor concrete cube tests, reinforcement tests, soil compaction tests, and other relevant quality tests.
Maintain quality inspection records and ensure timely rectification of non-conformities.
E. Project Scheduling and Cost Control
Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly construction progress against the approved project schedule.
Prepare progress reports and highlight delays, constraints, and corrective measures.
Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to ensure uninterrupted construction activities.
Assist in cost estimation, quantity take-off, BOQ verification, and monitoring of construction expenditures.
Minimize material wastage and improve productivity without compromising quality.
F. Coordination and Team Management
Coordinate with project management, architects, consultants, MEP engineers, procurement teams, and subcontractors.
Supervise site engineers, supervisors, foremen, and construction workers.
Conduct regular site coordination meetings and ensure timely resolution of construction-related issues.
Ensure effective communication between site teams and project management.
G. Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance
Ensure compliance with applicable construction safety regulations and project HSE policies.
Monitor excavation safety, basement construction safety, scaffolding, formwork, lifting operations, and working-at-height activities.
Identify potential hazards and ensure implementation of appropriate preventive measures.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized construction site.
H. Documentation and Reporting
Maintain daily site reports, construction progress records, material consumption records, and inspection reports.
Prepare work progress statements, technical reports, and site-related correspondence.
Maintain as-built drawings, RFI records, method statements, and material approval documentation.
Report project progress, challenges, and technical matters to the Project Manager.
5. Required Technical Skills
The candidate should have sound practical knowledge of:
Multi-storied and high-rise building construction.
Multi-level basement construction and deep excavation.
Piling, shoring, dewatering, and foundation engineering.
RCC structural construction and reinforcement detailing.
Formwork, scaffolding, and concrete technology.
Basement waterproofing and retaining wall systems.
Construction planning, scheduling, and progress monitoring.
BOQ, quantity surveying, and cost control.
QA/QC procedures and construction safety.
AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Project, and other relevant engineering software.
