Experience:
Collect blood samples from patients safely and correctly by venipuncture, capillary puncture, or other approved methods.
Properly identify patients before sample collection and confirm required investigations/tests.
Label all specimens accurately with patient details, date, time, and test information immediately after collection.
Maintain proper sample handling, storage, and transport conditions to preserve specimen integrity.
Explain the blood collection procedure to patients and help reduce anxiety, especially in children, elderly, and weak patients.
Follow infection prevention and control protocols, including hand hygiene, PPE use, and biomedical waste disposal.
Ensure aseptic technique during blood collection to minimize contamination and patient complications.
Monitor patients for dizziness, bleeding, fainting, or other reactions during and after sample collection and provide immediate support if needed.
Prepare and organize phlebotomy trays, vacutainers, syringes, needles, tourniquets, and other collection materials before duty.
Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the sample collection area at all times.
Collect other samples when assigned, such as urine, stool, sputum, swab, or other specimen types as per diagnostic center protocol.
Coordinate with laboratory personnel to ensure timely delivery of collected samples for processing.
Maintain records of sample collection, patient details, and handover documentation accurately.
Follow test-specific instructions for fasting samples, timed samples, post-prandial samples, culture samples, and special investigations.
Assist in home sample collection services or corporate sample collection camps if assigned by management.
Ensure all sharps are disposed of safely in puncture-proof containers according to safety guidelines.
Report any sample rejection issues, hemolyzed samples, collection difficulties, or patient incidents to the lab in-charge/supervisor.
Maintain patient confidentiality and protect all medical and diagnostic information.
Check stock of phlebotomy supplies and inform the concerned authority about shortages in advance.
Follow duty roster, punctuality, professional behavior, and service standards of the diagnostic center.
Assist in reception-to-collection coordination to reduce patient waiting time and improve service flow.
Perform all duties in compliance with the diagnostic center’s SOPs, quality standards, and accreditation requirements.
