Experience:
1. Laboratory Responsibilities
Collect, receive, label, and properly handle patient specimens including blood, urine, stool, and other clinical samples.
Perform routine laboratory tests according to established procedures and hospital protocols.
Operate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and analyzers.
Prepare reagents, solutions, and other laboratory materials as required.
Ensure proper identification, processing, storage, and disposal of specimens.
Record test results accurately and maintain laboratory registers and documentation.
Perform internal quality control procedures and report any abnormal or inconsistent findings to the concerned authority.
Maintain adequate stock of reagents, consumables, and laboratory supplies and inform the supervisor when replenishment is required.
Follow infection-control, biosafety, and laboratory safety procedures at all times.
Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste and used laboratory materials.
Assist doctors and other healthcare professionals by providing accurate and timely laboratory reports.
Maintain cleanliness and proper organization of the laboratory.
2. Blood Bank Responsibilities
Receive, identify, label, store, and issue blood and blood components according to approved procedures.
Perform blood grouping and Rh typing.
Perform compatibility testing/cross-matching as authorized by the hospital's blood bank procedures.
Properly maintain blood and blood-component storage conditions and monitor refrigerator/freezer temperatures.
Maintain accurate records of blood collection, receipt, storage, cross-matching, issue, return, and disposal.
Carefully verify patient identification and blood-unit details before issuing blood.
Monitor blood units for expiry, damage, or abnormalities and ensure appropriate segregation or disposal.
Maintain proper documentation and traceability of every blood unit.
Assist in managing blood and blood-component inventory and communicate shortages or urgent requirements to the concerned authority.
Follow all applicable blood-bank safety, quality-control, infection-control, and regulatory requirements.
Immediately report any suspected transfusion reaction, blood-storage problem, labeling discrepancy, or other blood-bank incident to the responsible medical officer/supervisor.
Assist with blood donation/collection procedures where applicable and within the technician's authorized scope of practice.
3. General Responsibilities
Maintain confidentiality of patient information and laboratory records.
Work cooperatively with doctors, nurses, blood-bank personnel, and other hospital departments.
Provide proper shift handover and communicate pending or urgent laboratory/blood-bank matters.
Participate in emergency and after-hours laboratory/blood-bank services according to the duty roster.
Attend training and competency assessments as required by the hospital.
Comply with hospital policies, professional standards, and instructions from the authorized supervisor.
Perform other laboratory- or blood-bank-related duties assigned by the management within the employee's qualifications and scope of practice.
