Technical & Machine Handling Skills – Proficient in operating, calibrating, and maintaining laboratory machines such as biochemistry analyzers, hematology analyzers, PCR machines, and other diagnostic equipment.
Computer & IT Skills – Skilled in using Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), data entry software, MS Office, and digital reporting platforms for accurate documentation and result processing.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills – Ability to interpret test results, troubleshoot equipment issues, and ensure reliable diagnostic outcomes.
Attention to Detail & Accuracy – Careful in specimen handling, test procedures, data recording, and reporting to minimize errors.
Communication & Teamwork – Strong ability to coordinate with consultants, physicians, and colleagues, and to communicate critical findings promptly.
1. Biochemistry
Perform biochemical tests such as blood glucose, renal function tests, liver function tests, cardiac markers, thyroid profile, lipid profile, electrolytes, and enzyme assays.
Operate and maintain fully automated biochemistry analyzers.
Prepare reagents, calibrators, and control samples as per laboratory protocols.
Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly quality control checks of equipment and test results.
Validate and record patient results accurately before releasing reports.
2. Microbiology
Receive and process specimens such as blood, urine, stool, sputum, pus, wound swabs, throat/nasal swabs, CSF, and body fluids for microbial investigations.
Perform microscopy (Gram staining, AFB staining, KOH mount, etc.).
Conduct culture and sensitivity tests for bacteria, fungi, and parasites.
Handle and identify pathogenic organisms under strict biosafety protocols.
Carry out antimicrobial susceptibility testing and report findings promptly.
Maintain sterility of media, reagents, and work environment to prevent contamination.
3. Clinical Pathology
Perform complete blood count (CBC) using automated hematology analyzers and manual methods when required.
Conduct peripheral blood smear examination and differential leukocyte count.
Carry out coagulation studies (PT, aPTT, INR, D-dimer, etc.).
Perform urine analysis (physical, chemical, and microscopic examination).
Examine stool samples for ova, cysts, parasites, occult blood, and fat globules.
Process and analyze other clinical pathology tests (semen analysis, body fluid cytology, etc.).
4. Molecular Laboratory Section
Perform molecular diagnostic techniques such as PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, and other nucleic acid-based tests.
Extract, purify, and quantify DNA/RNA from clinical specimens.
Prepare reagents, primers, probes, and reaction mixtures with precision.
Operate molecular diagnostic equipment and maintain calibration logs.
Ensure strict contamination control in pre-PCR and post-PCR areas.
Assist in molecular tests related to infectious diseases, genetic testing, and oncology markers.
General Responsibilities Across All Sections
Ensure proper collection, labeling, storage, and disposal of all specimens.
Follow SOPs, biosafety measures, and infection control guidelines.
Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
Document and maintain accurate laboratory records.
Report critical values immediately to the concerned physician/consultant.
Collaborate with colleagues, consultants, and healthcare providers to ensure accurate diagnosis.
Train and guide interns, junior technologists, and new staff.
