Responsibilities & Context
Medical officer is the vital post of a hospital for treatment & care and follow up the condition of patients and carry out the valuable order and advice of consultant time to time. So, a medical officer must use average degree of skill, care, judgment and attention during his duty in Hospital.
He must follow the appropriate treatment and advice’s given by the consultant.
He must attend the admitted patient as soon as possible and see all the papers of investigations. Previous treatment and complete the history sheet in details and inform consultant and arrange next management after consultation with RMO.
He must write full treatment and direction in patient ticket in simple language and clear letters.
In case of any risk or critical condition of patient, he must inform RMO, senior doctor and consultant as soon as possible.
He will follow up the conditions of the admitted patient time to time and record it on file. He must assist in operation of any patient.
He must write discharge certificate, medical certificate.
The attending medical officer must write death certificate as soon as possible.
When a medical officer is capacitated by illness, he will at once inform the RMO, so that steps may be taken to appoint a substitute.
A medical officer must help to maintain a suitable environment for treatment of the Hospital.
He must maintain professional secrecy and notify the infectious disease such as plague, cholera, small pox, AIDS, HBs Ag – positive patient etc.
He must be present in Hospital during his duty period, and bound to do the On Call duty if necessary.
