Responsibilities & Context:
  • 1. Patient Counselling

  • Counsel patients regarding diagnosed eye conditions and available treatment options.

  • Explain the need, benefits, risks, and expected outcomes of eye surgeries.

  • Address patient concerns, fears, and misconceptions regarding eye treatment.

  • Obtain informed consent support by ensuring patients understand procedures.

  • 2. Surgical Counselling

  • Counsel cataract and other surgical patients before surgery.

  • Explain pre-operative and post-operative instructions.

  • Coordinate with surgeons and nursing staff regarding patient preparation.

  • Encourage patients requiring surgery to undergo timely treatment.

  • 3. Patient Education:

  • Conduct awareness sessions on eye health, blindness prevention, diabetes-related eye diseases, glaucoma, refractive errors, and childhood eye problems.

  • Distribute educational materials and explain their contents.

  • Promote healthy eye care practices within the community.

  • 4. Patient Coordination:

  • Guide patients through hospital registration and treatment processes.

  • Assist in scheduling appointments, investigations, and surgeries.

  • Coordinate referrals to higher centers when required.

  • Ensure smooth patient flow within the hospital.

  • 5. Community Outreach Activities:

  • Participate in eye camps, school screening programs, and community awareness campaigns.

  • Identify patients requiring eye care services and facilitate referrals.

  • Build relationships with local community leaders, schools, and healthcare providers.

  • 6. Follow-up and Compliance:

  • Maintain records of operated and treated patients.

  • Conduct follow-up phone calls or visits when necessary.

  • Encourage compliance with medication and follow-up appointments.

  • Track surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction.

  • 7. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain counselling records and patient databases.

  • Prepare monthly activity reports.

  • Record patient feedback and complaints.

  • Assist hospital management in data collection and reporting.

  • 8. Customer Service:

  • Ensure courteous and compassionate communication with patients and attendants.

  • Resolve patient queries and complaints professionally.

  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
