Experience:
M.Sc. in Microbiology from a recognized university.
Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience in laboratory biosafety, infection prevention & control (IPC), or diagnostic laboratory operations. (Experience requirement may be adjusted based on organizational needs.)
Certification in Biosafety, Infection Prevention & Control (IPC), Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), or ISO 15189 will be considered an added advantage.
Sound knowledge of WHO, CDC, ISO 15189, and national laboratory biosafety regulations.
Strong understanding of biological, chemical, and occupational hazard identification and risk assessment.
Experience in conducting laboratory safety audits, incident investigations, and implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Familiarity with biomedical waste management, hazardous chemical handling, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Ability to develop and deliver staff training on biosafety, infection control, and workplace safety practices.
Proficiency in preparing reports, maintaining documentation, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Good communication, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to work under pressure, maintain confidentiality, and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality assurance, and continuous quality improvement.
Candidates with previous experience in diagnostic centers, clinical laboratories, hospitals, or healthcare institutions will be given preference.
Develop, implement, and monitor laboratory biosafety and infection prevention policies.
Ensure compliance with national regulations and international standards (e.g., ISO 15189, WHO, CDC biosafety guidelines).
Conduct risk assessments for biological, chemical, and physical hazards in the laboratory.
Monitor proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all staff.
Supervise biomedical waste segregation, handling, transportation, and disposal.
Investigate laboratory accidents, spills, needle-stick injuries, and exposure incidents, and recommend corrective actions.
Organize biosafety and infection control training for laboratory and clinical staff.
Monitor sterilization, disinfection, and decontamination procedures.
Perform environmental monitoring and ensure laboratory cleanliness and safety.
Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and oversee safe storage of hazardous chemicals.
Ensure proper specimen collection, transportation, processing, and disposal according to biosafety protocols.
Conduct internal safety audits and participate in external inspections and accreditation processes.
Prepare and maintain safety records, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
Coordinate emergency preparedness, fire safety, and evacuation drills.
Work closely with laboratory management to improve quality assurance and patient safety.
Monitor equipment maintenance and calibration related to laboratory safety.
Promote a culture of safety and continuous quality improvement throughout the diagnostic center.
