Responsibilities & Context:
JOB PURPOSE:
To inspect, repair, troubleshoot, overhaul and undertake preventive maintenance of shipboard mechanical and heavy equipment, diagnosing the faults or malfunctions, replacing the defective parts, cleaning and lubricating other parts to ensure effective operation of repaired equipment or system according to drawings, instructions, specification, and job request in order to construct and maintain mechanical systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Day-to-Day Operations
Install, maintain and repair mechanical systems onboard ships and repairs to various heavy machinery in workshop according to work orders, drawings and instruction by supervisor to meet mechanical section’s assignment.
Perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs to mechanical systems to prevent further damage.
Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
Follow all relevant section’s or department’s policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
Continuous Improvement
Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes and practices considering global standards, productivity improvement and cost reduction.
Reporting
Assist in the preparation of timely and accurate statements or reports to meet section or department’s requirements, policies and quality standards.
Health & Safety
• Maintain an awareness of all health and safety rules applying to the assigned tasks and tools to ensure that safe working practices are observed.
Use of Tools & Equipment
• Maintain competence in the use of all tools or equipment required for the assigned works.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Technical School/Vocational
Minimum Experience:
• 1-2 years of experience as Marine Mechanic
• 3 years of Oil/Gas/Marine industry experience in the installation and repair of a variety of mechanical shipboard systems.
• Certificate in Mechanical Engineering
Job-Specific Skills:
Working knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of propulsion systems.
Working knowledge of the methods of overhaul and repair of engines, generators, gear boxes, Shaft alignments, Chock fasting and valves.
Working knowledge of safety precautions in the mechanical trade.
Ability to use tools and equipment necessary to affect repairs.
Ability to read piping and mechanical drawings.
Shall be able to use and interpret laser alignment tools.
Working knowledge of the characteristics of various types of engines and their pipelines.
Undertake pressure testing of Hydraulic systems.
