Core Job Responsibilities

• Sample Testing and Analysis: Performs routine and specialized clinical laboratory tests, including hematology, microbiology, immunology, and cytology (e.g., examining tissue/cell samples for cancer or infection).

• Quality Control (QC): Ensures the validity and accuracy of test results by running controls, calibrating instruments, and troubleshooting equipment.

• Data Management & Reporting: Documents all procedures, analyzes findings, and reports data to physicians.

• Specimen Handling: Collects, processes, and prepares blood, tissue, and other samples for testing.

• Lab Management: Oversees lab assistants/technicians, manages inventory, and ensures adherence to safety protocols.

Key Qualifications

• Education: BSc in laboratory Science technician or Diploma in Laboratory Science.

• Skills: Strong attention to detail, proficiency with automated diagnostic equipment, and the ability to work under pressure.

Common Sub-specialties

• Blood Bank Technologist: Prepares blood and its components for transfusions.

• Cytotechnologist: Examines slides for cell abnormalities that signal cancer.

• Hematology Technologist: Analyzes blood for diseases such as cancer or blood clots.
