JOB PURPOSE:

To install, maintain and repair shipboard air-conditioning system and refrigeration units and their control systems in order to ensure that the required jobs are done in a timely and cost-effective manner.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Day-to-day Operations

 Follow the daily welding chart specifications for metal sheets laid out by the supervisor in order to ensure the welding work complies with the specifications provided and the activities are completed as per timelines, quality, health and safety standards of the division.

Repair

• Perform minor and major repairs by following repair procedures and identifying cause of the problem in order to determine materials, tools and method of repair needed.

Maintenance

• Check regularly and make necessary action on air-conditioning system, refrigeration units, chilled water distribution, equipment, control system, compressor, and air handling in order to avoid major repair or problems

Installation

• Install air-conditioning units, wire controls, duct works and chilled water piping to achieve work order as per required timetable.

 Follow all relevant section’s or department’s policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

 Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes and practices considering global standards, productivity improvement and cost reduction.

Reporting

 Assist in the preparation of timely and accurate statements or reports to meet section or department’s requirements, policies and quality standards.

Health & Safety

• Maintain an awareness of all health and safety rules applying to the assigned tasks and tools to ensure that safe working practices are observed.

Use of Tools & Equipment

• Maintain competence in the use of all tools or equipment required for the assigned works.

JOB CONTEXT:

• Job holder is expected to work properly in shipbuilding and repair set-up and capable to follow quality, health and safety regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCES:

Minimum Educational Qualification

• Diploma Degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration or relevant certificate

Minimum Experience:

• 2 – 4 years of experience as A/C Technician

JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS:

• Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and to prescribe and perform repair procedures.

• Ability to perform repairs and maintenance of equipment with

assorted hand and power tools.

• Ability to read manuals, schematics, and diagrams.

• A basic understanding of blueprints.

• Knowledge of electricity sufficient to trouble shoot and repair complex electrical control systems

• Working knowledge of the design and operations of compressors.

• Working knowledge of pneumatic control system.

• Working knowledge of the practice, methods, materials, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.

• Working knowledge of refrigeration.
