Educational Requirements:
∎ Diploma in Medical Assistant/ MATS; recognized & registered by Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) OR;
∎ Minimum Diploma or certification in Construction/ Public Health/ Plumbing or related subject
Job Context:
∎ The EH Assistant will report to the EH Officer and will be primarily responsible for supervising the Water and Sanitation infrastructure works and hygiene awareness in Health facilities as directed by the EH Officer. The main objective of this position is to support the EH Officer in managing safe water provision, Sanitation infrastructure (Excreta disposal and medical wastes disposal facilities), disinfection and cleaning and hygiene awareness. This includes construction and maintenance of water and sanitation infrastructure in the health facilities. Staff safety is a top priority and strict adherence to infection control procedures is necessary to prevent transmission of the disease. Personal protective equipment should be worn at all times in isolation units strictly in accordance with infection control protocols.

∎ Contract Length: December 31, 2020 (During the entire contract period, the COVID-19 Response Program staffs will have to stay at IRC arranged accommodation facility and cannot travel outside.)
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Primary Responsibilities:
∎ Directly implement the construction works, including but not limited to:
∎ Construction and rehabilitation of water supply systems.
∎ Construction of excreta disposal facilities.
∎ Construction of medical waste disposal facilities.
∎ Train and supervise daily skilled and unskilled workers.
∎ Train hygienists on SOPs for WASH in the health facilities and water quality and chlorine solution monitoring.
∎ Coordinate closely with the EH Assistants over water quality and beneficiary needs and preferences regarding water collection points and location of sanitation facilities.
∎ If required, supervise water trucking deliveries and systems.
∎ Provide weekly reports of progress on the construction of water supply and sanitation facilities.
∎ Seek guidance and approval from EH Officer on any changes to approved designs for water supply and Sanitation systems.
∎ Maintain comprehensive control systems on materials and tools used including notes on quality of materials.
∎ This position will enter the red zone of the Triages and Isolation facilities.
∎ Staff Supervision & Development:
∎ Assist the EH Officer, train and support daily skilled and unskilled workers.
∎ Supervise daily skilled and unskilled workers (Masons, hygienists and waste attendants).
∎ Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit and providing oversight and guidance to enable work teams to successfully complete their tasks on time and within budget.
∎ Responsible for daily skilled and unskilled workers' timesheets and work plans (Masons, hygienists and waste attendants).
∎ Grant Monitoring & Reporting:
∎ Daily volume of water supplied/delivered to location(s) including volumes and times, that is available at all WASH facilities.
∎ Routine O&M of water distribution system (s) including drainage around all water points.
∎ Water quality parameters (Bacteriological, physical and chemical).
∎ Chlorine solution concentrations.
∎ Availability of Hand washing stations and disinfection solutions.
∎ Other:
∎ Consistently and proactively monitor/assess the safety and security of the team; promptly reporting concerns or incidents to the EH Officer and liaising with other external parties as required to maintain/enhance the security environment for IRC programs.
∎ Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs.
Additional Requirements:
∎ The ideal candidate will have an Environmental health (WASH) background and experience in Implementing Water, Sanitation and sanitation in health facilities such as cholera treatment centers and disease-specific treatment units
∎ "Highly desired criteria" include previous work in Triages and isolation facilities, highly contagious area or Level 4 biosafety area and knowledge of infection control and prevention
∎ Competent in communication skills
∎ Effective in representation and liaison
∎ Works well in and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well
∎ Competent user of MS Applications: Word, Excel; ACAD or similar
∎ Ability to live and work in stressful and insecure environment
∎ Knowledge of English and local language spoken in the area
