Job Context:
∎ ABOUT THE CONSULTANCY CONTRACT:
∎ The salt industry in Bangladesh provides livelihood to more than a million people, but suffers from low productivity and lack of market expansion. The major constraints to improve the livelihoods of the salt cum fish farmers are increased operating costs for salt production, low productivity in aquaculture, the seasonal unemployment and vulnerability to climate induced risk. The objectives of a European Commission funded Artemia4Bangladesh project is to enhance food and nutrition security of salt farmers through climate smart innovation. The specific objectives are to introduce an integrated salt and Artemia production system, and increase marine aquaculture production and productivity in the salt farms in the Cox`s Bazar district.
∎ Position Objective:
∎ The project is looking for a Consultant - Crab value chain specialist to support the project team in:
∎ Organize crab value chain stakeholders (hatchery, nursery, soft shell crab farmer, crab grow out farmer, traders) in Cox`s Bazar district.
∎ Develop SOPs to operate crab hatcheries, nurseries, grow out farms.
∎ Assist to develop research protocols to improve technologies, increase efficiency in the crab value chain.
∎ Provide training to the project beneficiaries and assist to develop training, extension and communication materials.
∎ Location and Duration:
∎ This is open for national consultant only and will be based in Cox`s bazar, Bangladesh with extensive field visit. The selection of consultant will be based on the relevant qualification and experience, and the most competitive proposal. The interviews are expected to be held in November 2021 and only shortlisted consultant will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful consultant should be available to commence the consultancy contract for maximum of forty two (42) working days in between December 2021 and May 2022 (7 day`s each month).

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Prepare the data base of crab value chain stakeholders in the Cox's Bazar.
∎ Select crab farmers (nursery, soft shell/ hard shell farmers) to implement mutually agreed project activities.
∎ Develop SoPs to operate crab hatchery, nursery and grow out farms.
∎ Conduct training/ consultation meeting with the beneficiaries.
∎ Develop training, extension and communication materials to promote integrated salt-crab aquaculture.
∎ Assist to liaison with crab value chain stakeholders.
∎ Trouble shooting, exchange ideas to improve knowledge and skill of the crab hatchery, nursery and grow out farms.
∎ Prepare monthly progress reports.
∎ Deliverables:
∎ Supplying materials and guidance notes and conduct trainings to the crab value chain stakeholders (nursery farmer, soft shell and hard shell farmers).
∎ Identify the gaps, trouble shoot to improve knowledge and skill of crab hatchery technicians, nursery farmers and grow out farmers.
∎ Monthly progress reports and end report.

Additional Requirements:
∎ This job is open to Bangladesh Nationals with the following skills and qualifications:
∎ Proven experience in Crab hatchery operation, crab nursery, soft shell/ hard shell crab farming at least for 3 years.
∎ Ability to identify the gaps to develop the efficiency in crab hatchery, nursery and grow out farm operation.
∎ Ability to conduct training to the crab value chain stakeholders.
∎ Ability to establish development collaboration with relevant government, non-government, private companies.
∎ Master of Science Degree in the relevant field.
