Responsibilities & Context:
Regulating animals:
Recommending changes to laws and regulations that govern the quarantine and regulation of plants and animals, as well as the trade of their products
Monitoring and overseeing:
Visiting and monitoring the work of regulatory inspectors, and overseeing field office functions
Screening for diseases:
Screening for diseases in plants, animals, and their products kept in quarantine stations
Assessing and managing risk:
Assessing and managing the risk of pests and diseases in the country
Providing technical support:
Assisting regulatory inspectors and providing technical support
Surveilling establishments:
Ensuring that local establishments, food sale points, and agriculture and animal product sales points are safe and of quality
Preparing reports:
Preparing annual work plans, maintaining records, and compiling monthly progress reports
Compiling data:
Compiling relevant data and information for the head office or other regional counterparts
Agricultural regulatory officers may be exposed to hazards such as chemicals, infections, radiation, and extreme weather. They may also need to perform their duties around the clock during peak export periods.
