Job Context:
∎ Arannayk Foundation (AF) is a not-for-profit organization devoted to forest and biodiversity conservation in Bangladesh since 2003. It has applied for a fund under the USAID Local Works Bangladesh Activities to undertake a project on conservation and rehabilitation of forests/tree cover in Ukhia, Cox`s Bazar, where massive deforestation and degradation of forests have taken place due to the influx of the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (Rohingya). The project will mainly focus on sustainable livelihood development of the affected poor people in the host communities through technical skills and market linkage development for diversified income generating activities and on capacity development of local institutions on forest conservation. The project is expected to start from April 2020 and its duration will be 3 (three) years.
∎ Duty Station: Ukhiya, Cox`s Bazar.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Subject to the donor's approval of the proposed project, the AF intends to hire one 'Technical Officer (Horticulture)' for the same. The main tasks for this position would be, but not necessarily limited to, the following:
∎ Prepare technical guidelines and session plans on horticultural and integrated homestead farming technologies for farmer field school (FFS) sessions under the guidance of Livelihood Specialist, Field Coordinator and Project Coordinator
∎ Train and guide Field Facilitators (FF) and Community Development Volunteers (CDV) in conducting FFS and other training sessions on horticultural and integrated homestead farming technologies
∎ Train and guide FFs and CDVs to establish demonstration plots on improved horticultural and integrated homestead farming technologies
∎ Mobilize technical support of Upazila Agricultural Officers (UAO), Sub-Assistant Agricultural Officers (SSAO) and other technical experts to the project participants (VCF/FFS members)
∎ Conduct key informant interviews (KII), focus group discussion (FGD), secondary information survey and stakeholders' workshop to assess constraints and opportunities and plan market based solutions for pro-poor value chain development of horticultural crops
∎ Mobilize training for, and provide accompaniment support to, Local Service Providers (LSPs) on horticultural crops for their technical capacity, market linkages and service delivery skills development
∎ Monitor crop conditions (pest and disease incidence, water stress, etc.) and advise project participants about necessary measures
∎ Collect monitoring data and photographs, analyze data and prepare project reports (monthly, quarterly, annual) on assigned project activities
∎ Perform any other task within the purview of the project plan as assigned by the Field Coordinator, Project Coordinator or Project Director.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Age at most 35 years
∎ At least 03 (three) years' relevant working experience, especially on-farm research or extension work on horticultural crops. Experience or training in FFS approach will have added preference
∎ Skills in common Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
∎ Proven skills in agronomic data analysis and technical report writing
∎ Prior experience or training in value chain development approach will be preferred, but not mandatory.
Salary: Tk. 48000 - 52000 (Monthly)
