Advanced university degree in Medicine (MBBS) with a postgraduate qualification in Paediatrics and/or Neonatology (FCPS, MD, Diploma, or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
Proficiency in English and Bangla (spoken and written).
Competency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills.
Minimum of three years’ clinical experience in paediatric and neonatal care, preferably in secondary or tertiary-level health facilities.
The incumbent will work as a team member with clinical and administrative staff, nursing teams, and specialist doctors in the Special Care Newborn Unit (SCANU), Paediatric Ward, and relevant outpatient services. As such, s/he will –
a. Examine newborns, infants, and children to determine specific health conditions, developmental status, and treatment needs.
b. Review patient history, prenatal/perinatal risk factors, and plan appropriate treatment or interventions.
c. Participate in multidisciplinary medical boards for complicated neonatal or paediatric cases, including those requiring surgical, obstetric, or infectious disease consultation.
Provide specialized care for complicated or referred neonatal and paediatric cases, including preterm infants, low birth weight babies, congenital anomalies, birth asphyxia, neonatal sepsis, and other acute or chronic paediatric conditions.
Diagnose and manage neonatal and paediatric patients with communicable diseases (including TB, HIV, and vaccine-preventable illnesses) and non-communicable diseases (such as congenital heart disease, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, and genetic disorders).
Interpret and explain laboratory, imaging, and other investigative results to parents/guardians, referring clinicians, and relevant specialists as required.
Participate in infection prevention and control initiatives, rational drug use programmes, and quality improvement efforts in neonatal and paediatric care services.
Contribute to outbreak investigation and control, particularly for epidemic-prone diseases affecting newborns and children (e.g., measles, diarrhoeal diseases, respiratory infections).
Guide and support preventive health and developmental screening activities for children, including immunization, growth monitoring, and nutrition programmes.
Provide technical guidance in implementing child health public health initiatives, including Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI), newborn care protocols, and nutrition interventions.
Maintain the highest ethical and professional standards, ensuring respect for patient dignity and adherence to child rights principles in healthcare.
Perform and interpret diagnostic procedures relevant to neonatal and paediatric care, including point-of-care ultrasounds, cranial ultrasound for neonates, and chest X-ray interpretations.
Provide on-the-job training to other health staff and junior doctors on neonatal resuscitation, advanced paediatric life support, feeding protocols, infection control, and evidence-based clinical guidelines.
Supervise and mentor nurses, midwives, medical students, and other healthcare professionals in neonatal and paediatric practice.
Support health information management systems for MOHFW and [organization] projects, including documentation and reporting through DHIS2, EWARS, perinatal mortality reviews, and paediatric morbidity data.
Remain available for consultation and management of neonatal and paediatric emergencies as the first on-call when required.
Actively engage in health sector coordination mechanisms to:
i. Address unmet needs in neonatal and paediatric care,
ii. Optimize resource allocation for child health services,
iii. Develop and review neonatal/paediatric clinical guidelines and protocols.
Assist in preparing periodic reports and respond to information requests as needed.
Support maintenance and proper functioning of neonatal and paediatric medical equipment (incubators, CPAP, phototherapy units, etc.).
Liaise with government health authorities, child health networks, and community stakeholders to strengthen service delivery systems.
Assist programme management teams in monitoring, priority setting, and responding to emerging neonatal and paediatric health needs, including outbreak surveillance and health promotion campaigns.
Facilitate referrals and coordinate transportation of critically ill newborns or children to higher-level facilities, ensuring proper communication with receiving centers.
Undertake duty travel as required to ensure quality and continuity of neonatal and paediatric services, especially for vulnerable populations.
Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Monthly gross salary for this position is BDT 208,340.67.
