A Sonologist is a licensed medical doctor who specializes in performing, analyzing, and officially interpreting diagnostic ultrasound scans to diagnose and manage medical conditions.
Core Responsibilities
Conducting Scans: Performing specialized ultrasound examinations on various parts of the body, including abdominal, obstetric, pelvic, and vascular structures.
Interpreting Images: Reviewing real-time sound-wave imaging data to distinguish between normal structures and pathologies (such as tumors, blood clots, or fetal abnormalities).
Diagnosis and Reporting: Writing comprehensive diagnostic medical reports for referring physicians to guide patient treatment plans.
Guiding Procedures: Assisting or providing live ultrasound guidance during invasive medical procedures like biopsies, fluid taps, or targeted injections.
Patient Care: Explaining procedures, ensuring physical and mental comfort during the scan, and communicating sensitive or critical findings directly to patients and healthcare teams
