Job Context:
∎ Background: WorldFish, Bangladesh and South Asia is hiring Research Assistant funded by USAID funded `ECOFISH II` in order to meet its vision: "Be the research partner of choice, delivering high impact, transformative and equitable fisheries and aquaculture solutions to reduce poverty and malnutrition in Bangladesh and South Asia". The key objective of the ECOFISH project is to improve the resilience of Meghna River and Coastal ecosystem and livelihoods of communities reliant on the coastal fisheries.
∎ This position will be based at WorldFish`s Office in Ukhia-Cox`s Bazar, Bangladesh. Interviews are expected to be held in April 2020 and only shortlisted candidates will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful candidate should be available to commence as soon as possible for an initial nine (9) months fixed term contract, with the possibility of contract renewal depending on performance and funding availability.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ S/he will undertake field level activities of ECOFISH II under the supervision of the /Scientist (IR-1: Fisheries Biologist) / Research Associate (as local supervisor) of the respective Field Research site.
∎ Motivate project target community jointly with partners' organizations for ensuring peoples' active participation in project activities.
∎ Prepare monthly work plan, implement activities in line with project Intermediate Results (IRs) and submit the report on activities accomplishment including the constraints and measures to overcome the constraints.
∎ Collect all necessary field data and compile for analysis.
∎ Keep effective liaison with the government agencies and monitor the activities of partner organizations.
∎ Provide and organize training to the target beneficiaries; transfer knowledge to the fisher- men and women, and community people for better management of Hilsa and other major marine and coastal fish species and conserve biodiversity.
∎ Promote farming of seaweed, green mussel and crab for fishers' alternate income generating activities.
∎ Organize and facilitate group meetings with target people of the project for changing behavior of the relevant stakeholders.
∎ Collect and preserve larvae of marine fish and animals for resource assessment.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Minimum 2 years work experience in Community Based Fisheries Management or Fisheries or Aquaculture development and extension project with focus of field based research activities. Experience may be relaxed for exceptional academic result at graduate level and research skills.
∎ Understanding of basic concept on capture fisheries, co-management, and socio-economic aspects of fisheries will be appreciated.
∎ Past and relevant experience with similar job will be given preference.
∎ Excellent proficiency of spoken and written English with strong writing skills.
∎ Able to undertake regular field work, traveling by motorbike/ boat.
∎ Obtained a valid motorbike driving license and proven ability of swimming.
∎ Ability to work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
∎ Ability to both work in and assist team, committed and motivated.
Salary:
∎ Tk. 643441 - 682627 (Yearly)
∎ This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with annual salary ranging between BDT 643,441 - BDT 682,627 per annum. WorldFish NRS shall receive comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, and pension / provident fund contribution.
