Job Context:
∎ The Research Assistant for BBSRC Aquaculture project entitled "Novel molecular approaches for advancing prediction and mitigation of disease outbreaks in aquaculture for small scale farmers" will require to implement of project activities in the field level and laboratory (if required).
∎ This position will be based at WorldFish`s Country Office in Khulna, Bangladesh. Interviews are expected to be held in April 2019. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful candidate should be available to commence by May 2019 for an initial five (5) months` short term contract, with the possibility of contract renewal depending on performance and funding availability.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Assist in standardization of sampling, diagnostic pathology protocols for known and emergent disease, increase awareness of pathogens through training aquaculture health professionals and farmers.
∎ Provide data, information to develop online training tools and network of trainee and expert pathologists for diseases of significance to farmed aquatic hosts ('histoPATHway').
∎ Assist in sample collection to characterize microbiome community structure and pathogen content.
∎ Assist in field trial to determine the effect of probiotic treatment and farmer intervention methods on shrimp pond microbiome and pathogen prevalence.
∎ Assist in farmer interaction and communication to develop App and web portal.
∎ Data collection on measurable factors (eg. Mortality, pond variables) for modeling and predicting disease risk.
∎ Assist to assess the impact of research and benefits for small scale farmers in disease mitigation, training and understanding of disease diagnosis, best management practice and socio economic benefits to farmers.
∎ Data collection, assist in data analysis, prepare reports and scientific outcome.

Additional Requirements:
∎ Minimum three (3) years of experience in survey work, conduct community discussion, data collection, shrimp disease diagnostics, sample collection, preservation and participate in practical work in laboratory.
∎ Strong in essential computer software/packages for database management and data analysis.
∎ Willingness to travel according to project requirement.
∎ Excellent English writing and speaking skills.
∎ Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
∎ Ability to both in work, assist team, and manage field

Salary:
∎ This is a five (5) months temporary position with salary ranging BDT 32,000 to BDT 35,000 per month.
