∎ Background:
∎ As part of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) Project team, the Private Sector Engagement Specialist will provide leadership and high-quality advice on market development to ensure the project.
∎ The project effectively enables inclusive aquaculture sector growth through a market systems approach by designing, planning and applying a market development strategy within the Bangladesh component of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation project titled #1 Aquaculture: increasing income, diversifying diets, and empowering women in Bangladesh and Nigeria and
∎ The project has effective collaboration with other WorldFish projects in Bangladesh and HQ to contribute to wider donor, WorldFish and CRP FISH goals of sustainable development through private sector engagement across aquaculture and agriculture investments in the country.
∎ The Incumbent will support project interactions with the market actors of most concern to the project ensuring that a market systems approach is used in the delivery of the five main results: Result 1: Increased productivity and diversity of fish production systems, Result 2: Improved smallholder access to quality inputs and services, Result 3: Improved market linkages, Result 4: Improved dietary diversity and consumption and Result 5: Women`s empowerment.
∎ Eligibility, Location and Duration:
∎ This position will be based at WorldFish`s Country Office in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Interviews are expected to be held in December 2019. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful candidate should be available to commence as soon as possible for an initial two (2) years fixed term contract, with the possibility of contract renewal depending on performance and funding availability.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Analyze the private sector landscape in aquaculture sector in Bangladesh and access engagement opportunities for systemic change in management practices, fish seed, feed and service market.
∎ Identify key actors in the private sectors institutions including the input companies, food processing companies, super shops, private companies, financial institutions (Fls), regional and national associations/ Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and others.
∎ Identify key entry points for engagement with the key actors of private sector.
∎ Lead efforts to establish effective gender-inclusive market systems with support from aquaculture experts, gender experts and the private sector.
∎ Analyze the business incentive and determine scope of engaging private sector partners for nutrition messaging to address dietary diversity goals of the project.
∎ Identify entry points within the value chain and design, develop, and implement interventions along with the private sector that will create or strengthen the aquaculture value chain by improving cost competitiveness and quality standards.
∎ Strategize on creating business linkages and agreements between different private sector companies such as feed companies, retail market with local service providers and smallholder fish farmers to ensure access to quality seeds, feed and embedded technical services.
∎ Identify improved and innovative marketing strategies and market opportunities for poor women and men.
∎ Understand and design systems and mechanisms to increase Local Service Provider (LSP) sustainability, competitiveness and professional development.
∎ Design and implement activities that will improve the availability of market information to farmers, traders, and buyers.
∎ Work with digital partners to identify digital solutions to problems in the market system.
∎ Design and implement interventions in a market development approach.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Minimum 5 years' experience including 3 years' experience of working in a market systems approach.
∎ Excellent networking and relationship building skills.
∎ Experience in conducting market research and value chain analysis.
∎ Proven project management skills including project development and report writing.
∎ Skilled in the use of MS office and other software of importance to this type of research.
∎ Experience with quantitative or qualitative research methods, as well as conducting field based assessments.
∎ Excellent English writing skills for proposals, reports, and scientific papers.
∎ Demonstrated experience and technical knowledge in gender integrated development, particularly related to food security, aquaculture/agriculture market systems, and nutrition integrated aquaculture/agriculture.
∎ Academic background with both business and aquaculture experience.
∎ Experience in Aquaculture or Agriculture value chain and market analysis and studies.
∎ Quality scientific publication record.
∎ Experience in gender research.
∎ Experience in working with digital tools for e-learning or business development.
∎ Strong ability to design and lead quality research independently.
∎ Excellent analytical and technical skills and expertise with the ability to work independently.
Salary:
∎ This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with annual salary ranging between BDT 1,351,555 - BDT 1,521,187 per annum. WorldFish`s NRS shall receive comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, and pension/ provident fund contribution.
