Job Context:
∎ As the Nutrition Specialist, the post holder will provide leadership and high-quality documentation and scientific advice on human nutrition while ensuring the project:
∎ Achieves its nutrition outcomes as part of inclusive aquaculture sector growth through a market system approach within the Bangladesh component of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funded project titled #1 Aquaculture: increasing income, diversifying diets, and empowering women in Bangladesh and Nigeria and
∎ Ensuring effective collaboration with other WorldFish projects in Bangladesh to contribute to wider donor, WorldFish and CRP FISH goals for improving nutrition through aquaculture and agriculture investments in the country.
∎ The incumbent is responsible to work towards achieving Result 4: Improved dietary diversity and consumption of the project.
∎ This will include but not be limited to:
∎ Increase nutritional awareness and practices (consumption of nutritious foods, with focus on fish, dietary diversity and hygiene practices) at household level through Social Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) approaches.
∎ Improve access to diverse and nutritious foods through nutrition-sensitive fish production systems (mola-carp and other polycultures) along with pond dike vegetable production and homestead gardening.
∎ 3Work with partners to develop and market affordable, nutritious, safe and ready-to-cook/eat fish and fish products.
∎ With a range of partners, create a national mass media campaign in order to enhance positive consumer attitudes to fish species, both farmed and from capture fisheries and promote the benefits of fish consumption, with focus on the first 1000 days of life.
∎ Work with partners to scale nutrition messaging across a range of audiences.

∎ Eligibility, Location and Duration:
∎ This position will be based at WorldFish`s Country Office in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Interviews are expected to be held on August 2019. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful candidate should be available to commence on August 2019 for an initial two (2) years and four (4) monthsfixed term contract, with the possibility of contract renewal depending on performance and funding availability.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Ensure that the package of interventions supported by the project maximizes its chances of achieving the ultimate objectives of improving dietary diversity, food and nutrition security, and health, particularly among smallholder farm households and vulnerable groups, including pregnant and lactating women and young children.
∎ Ensure necessary quality and technical guidance of the project team and partners in the implementation of project activities related to nutrition (including developing and strengthening behavior change communication activities, action research on nutrition, and finding innovative strategies to reduce gender disparities in food access and consumption).
∎ Work with gender experts in integrating gender messaging into nutrition-related behavior change communications through mass media, partners and other means.
∎ Facilitate nutrition-sensitive market system approaches in terms of fish species and vegetable variety selection, post-harvest handling and processing.
∎ Provided guidance to scale-up of proven homestead nutrition-sensitive aquatic agri-food systems in northwest Bangladesh.
∎ Strengthen monitoring systems and design and conduct evaluations to maximize learning from the project and ensure accountability to stakeholders.
∎ Prepare annual work plan and budget for implementation of the nutrition components of the project, in collaboration with Monitoring Evaluation and Learning team and partners.
∎ Capacity building at local levels will target private partners, NGOs and associated stakeholders.
∎ Ensure effective coordination among the selected partners, implementing private partners of the project, the health department of government, and relevant projects implemented by WorldFish in Bangladesh. Provide technical support, and ensure effective cross-program learning is captured and necessary quality in research design is implemented.
∎ Develop and strengthen partnerships with collaborating organizations including the private sector partners, CRP FISH, national research institutions and universities and private partners.
∎ Provide technical assistance to the nutrition partners for designing nutritional interventions focusing on food security and nutritional awareness and practices.
∎ Prepare progress reports on activities and outcomes for the project.
∎ Prepare scientific publications, working papers, presentations and other science-based communication and learning products.
∎ Represent WorldFish in various national and international nutrition events.

Additional Requirements:
∎ Minimum 7 years working experience in nutrition and/or public health sector; experienced candidates of 10 years more will be given preferences.
∎ Excellent knowledge and technical skills related to human nutrition/health and food and nutrition security and demonstrated ability to perform critical thinking on research issues, with three or more years of relevant research experience, including experience working in developing country settings.
∎ Documented strengths in data analysis and interpretation of results.
∎ Very strong skills and experience in technical writing in English.
∎ Strong English and Bangla spoken and written skills.
∎ Experience in implementing SBCC interventions in the area of nutrition.
∎ Expertise in designing research studies and analyzing quantitative data using statistical analysis software.
∎ Interest in working across disciplines to develop innovative metrics for understanding linkages between agriculture, food systems, and nutrition and finding novel ways to enhance the "nutrition-sensitive" effects of agriculture/aquaculture.
∎ Desired Skills and Qualification:
∎ History of own publications related to human nutrition, especially from developing country settings.
∎ Basic understanding of market system development principles, approach, applications and challenges.
∎ Knowledge with behavioral change management is preferred.
∎ Working experience in rural Bangladesh and South Asia.
∎ Experience using both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
∎ Familiarity with agricultural/aquaculture programs.
∎ Experience in working with Government collaborative programs.

Salary:
∎ This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with annual salary ranging between BDT 1,870,868 - BDT 2,168,849 per annum.
