Education:
    • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery(MBBS)
    • Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS)
    • Doctor of Medicine (MD)
  • MRCP / FRCS or equivalent postgraduate qualification.Valid

  • BMDC registration.

  • Advanced qualification in Hospital Administration, Healthcare Management, or Public Health will be an added advantage.

Job Summary

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for providing strategic clinical leadership, overseeing all medical services, ensuring quality patient care, maintaining regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement across the hospital. The CMO collaborates with department heads to achieve organizational goals while ensuring excellence in healthcare delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

  • Lead and oversee all clinical departments to ensure high-quality patient care.

  • Develop and implement clinical policies, protocols, and evidence-based practices.

  • Monitor clinical outcomes and patient safety indicators.

  • Supervise consultants, specialists, medical officers, and clinical teams.

  • Ensure compliance with BMDC regulations, national healthcare standards, and hospital policies.

Medical Administration

  • Provide overall leadership for medical services across the hospital.

  • Coordinate activities among all clinical departments.

  • Approve clinical guidelines, SOPs, and treatment protocols.

  • Participate in strategic planning and organizational development.

  • Oversee physician credentialing, privileging, and performance evaluation.

  • Review and investigate clinical incidents, complaints, and medico-legal cases.

Quality & Patient Safety

  • Lead quality assurance and patient safety initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control (IPC) standards.

  • Monitor mortality, morbidity, adverse events, and clinical audit findings.

  • Chair of the Medical Review Committee and Clinical Governance meetings.

  • Promote continuous quality improvement (CQI).

Human Resource & Medical Staff Management

  • Participate in recruitment, interviewing, and selection of medical personnel.

  • Supervise departmental Heads and Consultants.

  • Conduct annual performance evaluations of medical staff.

  • Identify training needs and support professional development.

  • Foster teamwork, discipline, and ethical medical practice.

Academic Responsibilities

  • Promote Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities.

  • Supervise internship, residency, and postgraduate training programs.

  • Conduct academic meetings, clinical conferences, and grand rounds.

  • Encourage clinical research and publication.

  • Mentor junior doctors and department heads.

Financial & Operational Responsibilities

  • Assist management in preparing departmental budgets.

  • Optimize resource utilization without compromising patient care.

  • Monitor departmental productivity and operational efficiency.

  • Support hospital accreditation and quality certification initiatives.

Emergency & Crisis Management

  • Lead medical response during disasters and mass casualty incidents.

  • Coordinate emergency preparations.

  • Ensure adequate medical staffing during emergencies.

  • Participate in hospital emergency management committees.
