Job Context:
∎ Estimated Duration: Two years: Selected candidate should be available for minimum of 2 years duration of the contract with the stated rate quotes (not changeable)
∎ Number of Vacancies: 5-10 (depending upon quality)
∎ Contract Type: This will not be fulltime engagement contract, this will be on call bases contract. The fixed number of hours, days or months are not determined and it depend on the United Nations agency need.
∎ Contract Start: The contract will begin ASAP.
∎ A. Background:
∎ United Nations agency`s Bangladesh office is one of the biggest United Nations agency`s offices in the world and the work it undertakes has a profound impact on the lives of the country`s children. This impact should be strongly promoted by the `stories` and case studies it has to tell through the United Nations agency`s website, reports and through social media to raise awareness about the issues faced by children in Bangladesh.
∎ These `stories` and case studies will be a key source of information for United Nations agency`s National Committees, donors and partners. It will help to showcase United Nations agency`s work in the country by containing detailed information on all United Nations agency`s programmes and projects as well as human interest stories, which clearly illustrates the impact United Nations agency is having on children.
∎ Donor partners are increasingly requiring greater visibility for their funding and human interest stories are a good way to highlight the positive impact of their investment.
∎ To this end, United Nations agency would like to develop a pool of in-country freelance writers to collect and draft human interest stories as and when required. The writers will be accompanied by a photographer.
∎ Under the guidance of the Communication Specialist, the writer will work closely with section colleagues and programme staff.
∎ B. Objectives, Purpose and Expected Results:
∎ To write features, case studies and other external relations material on key United Nations agency`s programmes in Bangladesh as and when needed, in English.
∎ There is also a need to enlist Bangla writers for occasional features, case studies and other communications materials.
∎ E. Reporting requirements
∎ Writers will be required to report to relevant CAP section colleague or associated programme colleagues, as required.
∎ F. Payment Schedule: Monthly invoicing.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ C. Description of Assignment:
∎ Undertaking field trips in order to gather material to write human interest stories, case studies or various kinds of communications materials on various United Nations agency's programmes.
∎ D. Deliverables:
∎ Human interest stories or case studies showcasing United Nations agency's work to be used for child alerts, brochures, donor reports, social media, the website, etc.

Additional Requirements:
∎ 3 to 5 years of experience in journalism or related communication field
∎ Excellent English language writing and editing skills
∎ Familiarity with United Nations agency's programmes and development issues
∎ A basic knowledge of photography, graphics and video is considered as an added advantage
∎ Work experience with United Nations agency's (country office or National Committee) or other UN agency is an asset
