Responsibilities & Context:
Arkay Multimedia Limited invites applications from vibrant, hardworking, and experienced individuals for the following position: Welding Foreman.
Work Responsibilities:
1. Layout, Alignment, and Preparation:
Before any actual welding begins, a significant amount of prep work is required:
Reading Blueprints and Schematics: Reviewing technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to understand the dimensions, layout, and specific welding process required for the project.
2. Material Selection and Inspection: Determining the appropriate metal types (e.g., steel, aluminum, stainless steel) and selecting the correct welding wires, electrodes, and shielding gases.
3.Prepping Metal Surfaces: Cutting, grinding, and cleaning metal pieces using wire brushes, chisels, or chemical solvents to remove rust, scale, grease, or paint, which ensures a strong weld.
4.Clamping and Aligning: Positioning and securing metal components using clamps, fixtures, and tack welds to ensure correct alignment before the final weld is applied.
Controlling Heat and Settings: Adjusting voltage, amperage, and gas flow rates on the welding equipment to match the thickness and type of the metal being joined.
Monitoring the Weld Pool: Maintaining a steady hand to control the weld puddle, arc length, and travel speed to create uniform, structurally sound beads.
Quality Control and Inspection:
A welder is responsible for ensuring the structural integrity of their work:
Visual Inspection: Checking finished welds for common defects such as porosity (air bubbles), cracking, slag inclusions, undercutting, or warping.
Testing Welds: Utilizing testing methods (or preparing pieces for inspectors) which can include hydrostatic testing, magnetic particle inspection, or liquid penetrant testing to ensure there are no hidden flaws.
Defect Repair: Grinding out and re-welding any areas that fail to meet quality standards or engineering specifications.
Safety and Maintenance:
Welding involves extreme heat, high voltage, toxic fumes, and intense light, making safety a daily priority:
PPE Compliance: Consistently wearing a auto-darkening welding helmet, flame-resistant jacket, leather gloves, and steel-toed boots to protect against burns, sparks, and "arc eye" (UV radiation damage).
Workspace Safety: Ensuring proper ventilation or using fume extraction systems to avoid inhaling hazardous gases, and keeping the work area clear of flammable materials.
Equipment Upkeep: Performing routine maintenance on welding machines, torches, regulators, and gas cylinders, and replacing worn-out consumables like tips and nozzles.
