Responsibilities & Context

BRAC's Gender, Justice and Diversity (GJD) is committed to building an equitable society by mainstreaming gender and disability inclusion across BRAC’s programmes, departments, and enterprises while advocating for gender justice. Our approach aims to transform sociocultural gender norms which prevent women and girls from realising their full potential, through building capacity of our staff and stakeholders, and influencing systemic changes to strengthen justice mechanisms and support gender-based violence survivors. As a crucial programme with women and girls at the heart of our work, we operate nationwide, covering all 64 districts of Bangladesh.

About the Role: The Programme Head will provide strategic leadership to advance gender equality, disability inclusion and the participation of socially excluded communities across BRAC’s policies, programmes, enterprises and workplace practices. The role leads strategic partnerships, advocacy and knowledge-sharing, ensuring that gender and disability perspectives are integrated into programme design and implementation to strengthen institutional accountability and achieve measurable, sustainable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership to develop and implement gender mainstreaming strategies, action plans and frameworks aligned with BRAC’s gender equality priorities, policies and practices, and advance disability inclusion across the organisation.

  • Advise senior management on strategic priorities and emerging issues in gender equality and disability inclusion, identifying opportunities to strengthen institutional commitment, accountability and inclusive workplace practices in collaboration with Human Resources (People & Culture).

  • Provide technical guidance to programmes, enterprises and departments to integrate gender equality, disability inclusion, accessibility and non-discrimination into programme design, implementation and operations. Review programme proposals, grants and work plans to ensure alignment with BRAC’s policies, organisational standards and relevant donor requirements.

  • Build the capacity of programme teams, managers and staff through coaching, training and orientation on gender mainstreaming and disability inclusion. Develop practical tools, guidelines and methodologies to support consistent application across programmes and workplace practices.

  • Strengthen gender-responsive monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning systems to track progress, assess outcomes and identify gaps. Oversee the generation, analysis and dissemination of evidence and learning to inform organisational decisions, programme quality, advocacy and external engagement.

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with BRAC leadership, government agencies, civil society, UN agencies, donors and Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) to advance gender equality and disability inclusion. Represent BRAC in relevant forums, consultations and advocacy initiatives to influence policy and practice.

  • Conduct field visits and engage with programme teams and participants to assess implementation, identify barriers to inclusion and recommend adjustments to work plans and approaches based on field evidence and emerging needs.

  • Lead and develop the Gender Justice and Diversity (GJD) team, fostering collaboration, technical excellence, analytical capability and professional growth. Oversee work planning, budget management, resource allocation and expenditure to ensure effective use of resources in line with approved plans and organisational policies.

  • Prepare and submit regular monthly, quarterly and annual reports, along with relevant compliance updates, documenting progress, outcomes, challenges and recommendations in line with organisational requirements.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Establish a safeguarding culture across all levels of the programme by implementing the safeguarding policy. Act as a key source of support, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding to establish a safe working environment.

  • Responsible for ensuring team members are appropriately trained, supported and have access to resources regarding issues that are identified and implemented in accordance with the safeguarding policy and procedure.

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
