Experience:
Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Nursing / Midwifery
Diploma in Paramedical Technology (Ophthalmic/Relevant field)
Training or experience in ophthalmology (preferred)
Registration with the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC)
Experience in hospital or clinic (eye care preferred)
Knowledge of basic eye anatomy and eye diseases
Ability to operate ophthalmic equipment
Good communication and patient-handling skills
Attention to detail and hygiene practices
Ability to work in a team with doctors and technicians
The paramedic will support ophthalmologists in delivering quality eye care services, assist in diagnostic and surgical procedures, and provide compassionate patient care in both clinical and outreach settings.
Clinical & Patient Care
Prepare patients for eye examinations and surgical procedures
Take patient history and record vital signs
Assist in administering medications (eye drops, ointments, injections as prescribed)
Ensure patient comfort and safety throughout treatment
Patient Education
Instruct patients on proper use of eye drops and medications
Education on eye hygiene and preventive care
Counsel patients with chronic eye diseases (e.g., glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy)
Ophthalmic Procedures & Assistance
Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and minor surgeries
Conduct basic eye tests:
Visual acuity
Tonometry (eye pressure measurement)
Refraction assistance
Clean, sterilize, and maintain ophthalmic instruments
Operation Theatre (OT) Duties
Prepare OT for eye surgeries (e.g., cataract, pterygium)
Maintain strict infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols
Assist surgeons during procedures when required
Monitor patients pre- and post-operatively
Post-Operative & Follow-Up Care
Provide post-surgery nursing care
Educate patients on medication usage and recovery process
Schedule and manage follow-up visits
Prepare patients for eye surgeries (e.g., cataract, DCR, DCT)
Maintain sterile environment in operation theatre (OT)
Assist during surgeries when required
Provide post-operative care and monitor patient recovery
Educate patients on post-surgery care and medication use.
Emergency & Outreach Support
Provide first aid and assist in eye emergencies
Participate in community eye camps and screening programs
Support awareness activities on eye health.
Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain accurate patient records and reports
Assist in patient registration and workflow management
Ensure availability of medical supplies and medicines.
Additional Responsibilities
Support in community eye screening programs
Assist in outreach camps and awareness campaigns
Assist in optical dispensing and patient counselling for refractive issues, including guidance on the selection and care of eyeglasses.
