Oriental Group is seeking a semi-experienced, highly detail-oriented Internal Auditor to oversee internal financial and operational controls across the Group's businesses, including real estate, construction, manufacturing, procurement, stores and other operating units.
The primary responsibility of this position will be to identify financial leakage, prevent fraud and irregularities, verify purchases and expenses, and ensure that company funds and materials are being used properly and efficiently.
This is a hands-on role requiring the candidate to independently review bills, purchase orders, supplier quotations, inventory records, project expenses and financial transactions.
Review supplier bills, purchase bills, expense claims, invoices and payment requests before or after payment.
Verify that quantities, prices, taxes, discounts and supporting documents are accurate.
Match Purchase Orders, Goods Received Notes (GRN), invoices and payment records.
Identify duplicate, inflated, fictitious or unsupported bills.
Verify that payments are made only against genuine purchases and approved transactions.
Check whether payments comply with company approval procedures.
Regularly compare prices of raw materials, construction materials, machinery, spare parts and other purchases against:
Previous purchase prices
Current market prices
Alternative supplier quotations
Approved supplier rates
Identify unusual price increases or unexplained price differences.
Review supplier quotations and procurement processes to ensure competitive pricing.
Maintain a database of frequently purchased materials and their market/reference prices.
Flag suspicious supplier relationships, unusual purchasing patterns or potential conflicts of interest.
Conduct regular physical visits to Oriental Group's construction sites.
Verify materials received at site against purchase orders and delivery documents.
Check whether materials are actually being used for the stated project.
Identify wastage, shortages, unauthorized removal or misuse of materials.
Compare project budgets against actual expenditure.
Review contractor bills, subcontractor bills and variation claims.
Physically verify quantities of major materials such as steel, cement, bricks, tiles, electrical materials, sanitary items and other construction inputs.
Conduct periodic and surprise physical inventory counts.
Reconcile physical stock with store records and accounting records.
Investigate shortages, excess inventory and unexplained adjustments.
Review material receiving and issuing procedures.
Ensure proper documentation for movement of materials between sites, factories and warehouses.
Monitor slow-moving, obsolete or damaged inventory.
Identify potential fraud, theft, embezzlement, kickbacks, conflicts of interest and unauthorized transactions.
Investigate unusual transactions and financial discrepancies.
Review transactions for suspicious patterns or manipulation.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding investigations.
Escalate suspected financial misconduct immediately to senior management.
Develop and recommend controls to prevent recurring irregularities.
Review new and existing suppliers for proper documentation and approval.
Identify unusual concentration of purchases with specific suppliers.
Compare supplier pricing with alternative suppliers and market rates.
Investigate repeated purchases made without competitive quotations.
Review potential related-party or conflict-of-interest relationships.
Review internal controls across Group companies and departments.
Identify weaknesses in procurement, payment, inventory, payroll and expense processes.
Recommend stronger approval and documentation procedures.
Ensure proper segregation of duties.
Monitor compliance with company policies and delegated authority limits.
Prepare regular Internal Audit Reports for senior management.
Report financial discrepancies, control weaknesses and potential fraud.
Quantify financial exposure wherever possible.
Provide practical recommendations to reduce costs and prevent leakage.
Maintain an audit trail of all findings and management responses.
Follow up to ensure corrective actions have actually been implemented.
The successful candidate will be evaluated based on:
Amount of unnecessary expenditure identified or prevented.
Procurement price discrepancies identified.
Inventory shortages and leakage detected.
Number and quality of audits completed.
Accuracy of bill and payment verification.
Fraudulent or irregular transactions detected.
Reduction in recurring control weaknesses.
Timeliness and quality of audit reports.
Effectiveness of recommendations implemented.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
CA (CC), ACCA, CMA or partially qualified candidates will be preferred.
Experience:
Approximately 2–5 years of experience in internal audit, external audit, accounts, finance, procurement audit or compliance.
Experience in construction, manufacturing, real estate, trading or large business groups will be strongly preferred.
Candidates from audit firms with strong practical experience may also be considered.
Strong understanding of accounting and financial controls.
Excellent Excel skills.
Ability to analyze invoices, quotations, purchase orders and financial data.
Strong numerical and analytical ability.
Ability to independently conduct physical stock and site audits.
Good understanding of procurement and inventory processes.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to identify inconsistencies and suspicious transactions.
Strong communication and reporting skills.
High level of integrity, confidentiality and professional skepticism.
The ideal candidate should be:
Honest and highly trustworthy
Detail-oriented and naturally suspicious of unexplained discrepancies
Comfortable challenging employees and suppliers when necessary
Independent and not easily influenced by internal staff
Willing to travel between Group offices, factories, warehouses and construction sites
Proactive rather than simply checking documents after the fact
Capable of investigating issues discreetly and professionally
This position requires independence from the Finance, Procurement and Stores departments. The Internal Auditor must have direct access to relevant invoices, purchase orders, supplier information, inventory records, bank/payment information and other documents necessary to perform an audit.
The candidate will be expected to physically verify transactions and materials, not merely review accounting records.
Oriental Group is looking for someone who can effectively act as the "eyes and ears" of senior management across the Group—someone who can identify where money or materials may be leaking, determine whether purchases are being made at reasonable market prices, and establish controls that prevent financial irregularities before they occur.
Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience and capability.
Additional: Performance-based incentives may be considered for significant cost savings, fraud prevention and recovery of company funds
