∎ Objective:
∎ Currently, Water.org Bangladesh is directly supporting Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) through grants and technical assistance to provide affordable financing for water and sanitation solutions. We call this program "WaterCredit" since our work enables water and sanitation loans. As a next step, we want to take WaterCredit to private commercial banks, i.e., support banks to provide loans for water and sanitation purposes.
∎ Our goal with this consultancy is help SME banking departments of private commercial banks to develop water and sanitation loan products at a time of COVID. Our research suggests that SME clients of several leading banks are seeking to make investments in water and sanitation solutions at their factories, hospitals, schools, and places of work.
∎ Given this potential demand, we seek to create a market for water and sanitation loans. The consultant will be responsible for business development with SME and potentially, agent banking departments, of private commercial banks.
∎ Timeline:
∎ We estimate that the first phase of the consultancy will last for 4 months from September to December 2020, and about 7-10 working days per month. After this first phase, there will be a scope to extend the assignment in 2021, on the basis of the consultant`s performance.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Scope of Work:
∎ The Consultant will design marketing collateral and tailor existing ones in line with businesses of private commercial banks
∎ He/She will use his/her network to conduct online (and offline, if required) meetings with heads of SME Banking Departments and Agent Banking Departments to understand needs of their client portfolios.
∎ The Consultant may wish to collaborate with SME Banking Department Leads to conduct assessments of needs of SME clients regarding water and sanitation, and the potential for intervention by designing suitable loan products to address those needs.
∎ The Consultant will also seek to understand how Water.org can best support these SME Banking Departments and their parent banks through a mixture of technical assistance and, if required, by offsetting R&D and product development costs.
Additional Requirements:
∎ At least 8 years in a private commercial banking with strong access to SME and general leadership at leading banks and non-banking financial institutions
∎ Any experience with financial product/business development will be preferred
∎ Innovative mindset oriented toward constructive problem-solving, proactive strategic development and thought leadership
∎ Skills in visualization, communication, and persuasion
∎ Ability to work with a team and capacity for remote work and reporting
∎ Resilience and high emotional intelligence

∎ The Consultant will charge for his/her time at a pre-determined daily rate in line with the Consultant's experience. This daily rate will be mutually agreed upon by the Consultant and Water.org before the start of the consultancy.
